why do shrooms have to be 'cracker dry'?

well i have done them about 3 other times but i never paid attention to their consistency...

the ones i have now are bendy, not cracker dry that will break in your hands.

will i die if i eat them? or just be sick for a couple days? ;(

 

i cannot make that distinction. it would depend on many things- how long they have been stored moist- what bacteria and fungal spores they have come into contact with- you may get sick. some moulds are incredibly poisonous and could well cause all sorts of health detrimental effects- including possibly death.

i personally would not touch shrooms that were stored for any amount of time longer than a day if they were not cracker dry. but that is just me being precautious. perhaps overly so. however i think only a professional biologist or mycologist could answer this question without doubt. and i would not be hasty to listen to anyone else.

eat em up-no problem. only thing about it is they last longer if they are dryer, and they also weigh less. if they are cracker dry the weight is always going to be consistent.

 

how can you simply say that without knowing even how long theyve been stored damp??

do they look moldy? have they turned brown and smell bad?? if not i wouldn't think much of it. cracker dry shrooms can absorb water from the air and become bendy.

 

well i know a great many people who indulge in shrooms and i know that it is common practice to eat mushrooms fresh within 24hrs of picking or stored in a paper bag in the fridge for several days at most or- make a tea that lasts only several days or- dry the mushrooms (to cracker dryness no less) and store in an airtight bag in the freezer to prevent growth of any moulds. others will dry and powder them and store the dried powder. this is the most common practice. but every book i've ever read on the subject has always stated that mushrooms to be stored for lengthy periods should be dried 100% to cracker dryness within 24hrs of picking otherwise contamination with other fungus becomes a danger.

 

yea its fine to eat them you would notice something was wrong if they were moldy or tainted in anyway

 

i had some mushies i bought at a festival, and i don't think they were that moist when i got them. but i stupidly left them in the tent overnight and i think they absorbed some moisture from the wet morning air. anyways, i was kinda nervous to eat them, but i just dried them out until they were cracker dry and ate them. kinda had two rough trips with them that turned me off shrooms...

 

I find shroom on floor, roomy and I was throwing them 2 each other.. Its was like months old, all mushed into the carpet with a hint of doggy hair and funky looking house dust ... but it was a big sho9om so I ate it..

 

They need to be kept cracker dry to keep other things from growing on them.

 

i dont think htye look moldy, theyre the regular colors, like whitish bluish greyish

and the caps are gold and if i open up the caps its black inside.. idk if thats normal...
ut i threw out most of the black parts i found excpet for 2 caps.

they dont look moldy but they do have a strong scent..

i think im just gonna do them tonight

oh the other thing is, they were my friends first and she took them about 2 weeks ago and just gave them to me last weekend.

 

and my friend took them 2 weeks ago when she bought them and nothing happened to her except or she broke out in hives on her neck. im not sure if its related to the shrooms. and when she gave me this bag of what she had left, in the box they were in, she had spit out a shroom that had started to grow a white fuzzy mold on it cause she spit it out and accidentally left it in there. but it wasn't in the bag with the rest of the shrooms...

They sound ok, but can't be sure witout actually seeing them. I store mine on a saucer, not in a closed container, they get cracker dry within a week and I've stored them for a few months that way. Whenever I've stored them in a closed container, Ive noticed a strong scent, but never had any other issue with them.

 

sounds like you should be fine. LOL at the details...

hard time eating shrooms anymore.. last time i wrapped those suckers up in a fruit roll up and chewed that up.. that shit is fuckin nasty anymore. I used to be able to eat them like popcorn. I ate like 35 grams fresh one time no problem. fuck that shit is nasty.

what is your setting? hopefully you can spend some time outside in nature. i've never had a great mushroom trip inside.

it was amazing! i only took a little at first and when it kicked in i was like why don't i talk to my door more often?? and i saw faces in my door and patterns everywhere and my ceiling was moving like the waves of the ocean and my room was breathing with me. so glad i did em. then i saved the rest for the next morning which made school spectacular!!
