They are so proud of their trash..it seems to me they could be eating better, and not covered with trash all the time.. They are always digging up trash and spreading trash.. And the worst part is: they think they so are cute and can get away with this behavior....
There's one here that eats from the birdfeeder everyday, during the day. I just noticed today that she must be feeding babies... Now I feel bad for telling her "I don't put those seeds out for you." I don't have trash, so they can't get into that here.
A few years ago there was one getting in my trash every night. I managed to catch it in a live trap with the intention of relocating it, but I noticed it was lactating so must have babies somewhere. So I let it go...it was vicious as hell too.
There are no raccoons here that I'm aware of but I'd gladly trade to have them here over the dumpster divers we have, namely rats and roaches.
The only "food type" trash I generate is coffee grounds and they get composted... Non-food trash stays in the house until I take it to a dumpster.
No Council Garbage Service Available Here Just Two Privately Owned Ones But They Are Too Expensive For The Services They Offer.....SO.....I Store Sealed Boxes And Bags On My Western Verandah Where Visitors Can't See Them And Hire A "Skip Bin" (dumpster) Every 6 Months...... Anything That Can Smell Or Attract Animals Goes In A Wheelie Bin With A Lump Of Concrete On The Lid......This Method Saves Me Nearly $280-00 Dollars A Year Over The Private Services..... Cheers Glen.
A few years back my then-boyfriend and I went to take out the trash, which we would throw into a dumpster. He opened the lid of the dumpster and out popped a little raccoon head. The raccoon and my boyfriend were both so shocked by the others presence that they both just froze and stared at each other for a few seconds before the raccoon ducked back down into the dumpster and my boyfriend dropped the lid.
back when i worked in the parks one thing i had to do was empty the trash cans every week. probably at least once a month i would get a heart attack when i went to pick up a can and found a coon staring up at me.
I remember back before the days of the recycle containers when we used garbage cans and plastic bags and at least once a month the trash would be strewn all over the ground by those little bandits
