I think being anonymous allows for more honest open discussions. I wouldn't say half the things in real life that i do online. And I know others wouldn't either

Anonymity creates the illusion of safety and thus creates an imaginary place where one is free from prejudice.

I lived most of my life suffocating in a small town with smaller minds and huge mouths.

If there are people like me, I have yet to find them and I am doubtful people like you are breeding like rabbits. You seem to be a rare sort. :)

Yes, we are 1%ers ... but despite that I've met many people just like me online. They're not uncommon in Universities either. 1% of 7+ billion people, that's quite a lot of people.

I've met a lot of people, though not quite 1% of 7+billion.

I think I liked 1% of those people.

I was part of a huge hack into my health insurance company. Nothing ever came of it, I got free identity protection for it which was cool because a day before that my purse was stolen with my license, social security card, insurance card, bank card, etc. that scared me more than the online hack, still does scare me to think some meth head is wondering around with all the needed information to basically become me.

[IMG] never carry your SS card with you, there is no need.
we had our van ransacked a few months ago and they stole random crap and some girl scout troop checkbooks.
sucker altered the check and printed their name to the account section and then bought groceries at Ralphs, $115.
Had to freeze the account and all kinds of fucking drama.......

    I fucking hate Girls Scouts.....[IMG]
the overall organization, not the actual girls

a couple of my daughters had their hotmail & yahoo accounts hacked.
why people use them for anything more than junk is beyond me...........

yea seriously ... dont even give that number out. you can omit it on most forms that ask for it. IIRC i got financial aid just fine leaving the ssn field blank. Government health insurance like medicare/medicaid i think sometimes you have to put it, but forms you fill out at a doctors office or hospital you shouldnt fill it out they dont need it, all they need is ur inurance card, those forms pass through way too many hands. Pretty much only government issued things should you be giving your ssn like driver license applications and such. The government already has it, and theyre the only ones that can really verify correctly anyways which means its kinda pointless for most people to ask for it.

Its not JUST online ... those "rewards" cards at stores are just as bad, your information is more valuable to them than the "rewards" you get from using the card. Use fake info if you want a rewards card, or just get the cashier to do it without one or give a bogus phone number wheres theres a good chance that its attached to a rewards card. All they do is harvest your purchasing habits and sell it through a big marketing network so companies cam send you targeted ads ... its fuckin evil man!

Leave you SS card and birth certificate in a safe.

I had to show my SSN card to my employer when I started a new job and forgot to take it out of my purse, I don't normally carry it around. It probably ended up in a dumpster somewhere anyways, hopefully the methhead more interested in the cash and tossed everything else

Fortunately, meth heads are normally pretty dumb, not always, but the probability is pretty high (probably higher than your average person).

Yes and herding hackers is like herding cats, or managing a pack of mischievous puppies, but herding sheep is easy and I'm sure some puppies are quite good at it (especially puppies of sheep herding breeds) ;P
