I was just sitting here thinking on how much I am blessed to know God. I was reflecting on the awesome things he has shown me, done in me, and given me. And I was thinking about his unfailing love for his people, his righteous judgement, his intolerance for injustice, his perfect will, and his Son he gave as a ransom for us. Then I began to wonder why there are so many people who refuse to believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and accept salvation and eternal life through him. But not only do people refuse to accept such great a gift; they choose to actually try to get others to deny Him and turn away from Him as well.
Please just tell me your thoughts on this, people. (I have thought on it already and have some answers, but it is good to ask people what they have found)

Perhaps it is because of false ego...because a lot of people think that they are better than God because they have gained a lot of material wealth...but when all is said and done...all of that is gone and you are just left with your soul (pretty much what you started with)...and I don't think that society focuses on that..esp because most of us live in Capitalist states...so all the focus is on false ego (who's better than whom, ect...) and not so much on spirituality...and when we do talk about spirituality its just to dump all our problems on whatever we want to percieve God as and we ask and ask...and nothing happens because God helps he who helps himself and his neighbor and when we ask and expect direct results...and don't get what we want...we think God doesn't like us or that there is no God...

I hope that answered part of your question...then again I could be in total left field...

It could be cause God's fake, or maybe because you misspelled 'oppose'.

    Definition: \Ap*pose"\, v. t. [F. apposer to set to; ? (L. ad) +
poser to put, place. See {Pose}.]
    1. To place opposite or before; to put or apply (one thing to
    another).

The nymph herself did then appose, For food and
beverage, to him all best meat. --Chapman.

    2. To place in juxtaposition or proximity.

    \Ap*pose"\, v. t. [For oppose. See {Oppose}.]
To put questions to; to examine; to try. [Obs.] See {Pose}.

To appose him without any accuser, and that secretly.
    --Tyndale.

Why do people stand beside God, you say??? In any case, I'm not sure too many people actively engage in crusades against God. And, in respect towards non-christians, they've found the same message of acceptance, for themselves, in an any number of other religions. Why does a Hindu, say, not accept Christ as his personal saviour? Because Christ is a false diety, in his eyes. It is the hindu equivalent of Satan conjurin up false idols to dissade him from the "True" path, which is, in his eyes, hinduism. Ya see, at the most basic leval, spirituality has been, will be, and can only be a personal thing. You cannot actually forcibly convert someone, because it's not real, you can't know what someone is thinking, and you can't control someone's thoughts.

I dunno, to place opposite something... I guess if you want to be real liberal with it, it sorta makes sense... I'll give her the benifit of the doubt considering I have never heard the word 'appose' before. :H

Pride. As Joe said, "wanting to stand beside God..." except he meant it in a much more positive way than I do.

Unfortunaetly, it's much easier for to people to oppose God than not. No one wants to stop doing things because God doesn't approve of them. It's easier for people to have freedom from religion and not feel they are being ruled by something. Like Jesus said, in order to follow him, you have to take up your cross daily. Being a Christian might not always be easy, but it is rewarding.

i don't oppose god. i personally don't believe in a god, therefore i don't oppose anything like it. as for opposing the idea of faith in a god, well, you could say i oppose the idea of untruth.

though of course, i wouldn't go about trying to convert christians or anything. it's none of my business what other people believe, and vice versa.

Well, if You don't believe in Him, you are against Him. That is simple.

Why do people deny God? I believe it is because we are inherantly(sp) evil. After Adam and Eve, the connection God wanted between man was destroyed. Ever sence then, humanity has drifted further and further away from Him. It is easier to explain away something than to defend it. "But that's impossable to fit all those animals on a boat"...."There is no way a huge body of water could just part like that"(ooo, did you hear they found Pharoes chariot at the bottom? I'll find a link)....it is just easier to say He doesn't exist.

That's a good point; to you, i do certainly oppose god, as it must be in your opinion that my disbelief stems from either pride, ignorance, or satan. So I can absolutely understand how I am in your eyes and religion.
Can you somewhat understand likewise, though? To me, I am not in opposition with god, as i feel the idea of a god is an untruth. This is what causes these discussions to become emotional, as to you, my soul is lost, and to me, I'm happily living my life in the world of verity. For example, are you in opposition to the tooth fairy? Of course not; in order to be opposed to something, you must first believe it to be true.
So, the only meaningful contest out there must be the satanists, who both believe in god and defy him at the same time.

Wait wait, are you saying that an all omniscient, all seeing, all loving, beyond coprehension god cares at all whether people believe in him?! I don't care if people believe in me, and I don't have some preposterous feeling that people who don't believe me are 'aginst' me. By that logic, I'm more accepting and probably therefore more knowledgable, and more loving then a god who would send people to be tortured forever for not believing in him. Why not worship me instead... I can prove I exist, gods never given you that much. All I'd ask for is begrudging acceptance after they died and saw that I was legit... not believing something is different from opposing it.

Nitemarehippiegirl has a good point about the tooth fairy, and still the tooth fairy gave me quarters when I was loosing my baby teeth, gods never given me crap. score one tooth fairy. Believe what you want. Later.

    Oppose. OPPOSE, not appose.

Some people prefer not to believe in god, some people prefer not to be Christian. You can live a full and good life without religion.

Good that religion has been so good for you, but I don't need it to dictate how I live. I believe in god, I believe in right and wrong, and I have morals, and I don't stuff my views down people's throats.

No one ever gets people to deny god, actually its the religious that try to get people to follow god. People have their own mind and if they feel devotion to religion isn't how they should live their life, then more power to them.

You are pretty much the type of narrow minded christian I despise. Yes, I said despise. Heathen I am!

Anyway, if she chooses not to believe in him, the she's not evil, nor is she against him, she just chooses not to believe. What is wrong with that?

I think the bible is the best fictional story ever written, but I don't believe in the bible. (I'm about to make Real American's head explode) :X

    1. God seems like a power hungry con artist is you ask me. He says no one can worship any other god but him, we have to worship him on Sunday, he tests people constantly only to demonstrate his power.
    2. He took seven days and seven nights to create the world, but if the concept of time wasn't created, seven days and seven nights could have been two-million years or more.
    3. Adam and Eve were tempted by the devil in the garden of eden. How did the devil get there? This was obviously a test by god.

P.S. I believe in god, the devil, and I have morals, but I wouldn't be the first to be called religious. In my eyes, let people live how they want to without judging them because god also gave us free will and a mind, and she chooses to use it.

That is not him just making a statement. That is a direct quote from the Bible.

It's sad to hear people say that God has never given them any thing. Life, family, friends, etc. But of course, money is the object most people desire.

The Bible also says you should stone disobidient children. So I wouldn't pick and chose a book you put so much faith in. Listen I'm not trying to talk you outta beliving in anything, but just because I don't believe in a certain figure, doesn't mean I'm aginst him.

No one said you were trying to talk them out of believing, but what we are simply saying is that by God's standards, either you are with him, or your against him. I didn't make the rules, he did.

Well 'his' rules that some people have such a firm grasp on, are trite, and shallow. I'm a buddhist, so I don't really care one way or the other, but I couldn't believe in a god who had such a primative 'me vs them' kinda ideology. if god's all knowing, then he certainly knows how if we believe in him, and he wouldn't be angry if we didn't, because anger is an emotion derived from negative surprise. If he knows everything, he wouldn't be surprised, sooo, he wouldn't be angry. You've already made up your mind, and thats fine, but do you want a god who's already made up his mind without thinking about something? I love christianity, but some peoples views on theism are just shallow. god doesn't care if I believe in him even if 'he' is real. And I don't care if some 4000 year old turk says otherwise. Take care of yourself.
