https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aH5nOea-i9M wouldn't just mandatory bare feet in all airports just be better?
The TSA folks seem to appreciate my bare feet for the most part. A few of them get all confused and discreetly contact their supervisors when they see me, but of course, bare feet are no threat. The funniest experience I ever had in an airport was in Indonesia. I got within 10 feet of the security gate where I was intercepted by an officer who told me I could not be barefoot in the airport. You never argue with Indonesian security personnel, so I immediately complied by slipping on my zorries, which were in my backpack. I then literally took 4 steps, to where the next security officer instructed me to remove my zorries for screening. Heck, let's have REAL security and fly naked!
*sigh* Watching that video I am reminded just how little people use their minds. I mean, shit...people are more likely to be struck by lighting than they are to be the victim of a "shoe-bomb". But yes because ONE person tried it, the TSA now claims that "we know terrorists have used this technique". Does it hurt their case to point out the it was probably one of the dumbest ideas a terrorist has thought of? He needed to light a fuse to detonate said "shoe-bomb" and he tried and failed with six matches. But no, now we must all be vigilant against the threat of explosive footwear that is SO prevalent that we have dozens of attempts to blow up planes with shoes. Still, yes I'm definitely happy that I can be barefoot in airports without as much hassle. It's too bad that such freedom comes with a heaping dose of paranoia and fear-mongering.
Ef that noise. I've tried barefooting at airports. My average "time to live" was somewhere between fifteen and thirty minutes, before the TSA's finest come waddling in and ask me to put shoes on. Whatever, it is what it is. I'm not militant about it. At the same time, the people who man the security gates are delightfully unencumbered by both intellect and sound judgment. Never mind the fact that a very underdressed girl probably COULDN'T blow up a plane if both of her paper-thin flip-flops were made of C4. One look at the faces of some of the guys (and gals) they hire to work the X-Ray machines, and you realize that they could point-blank miss an Al Qaida squad with a portable nuke, much less detect a well concealed explosive.
Such different experiences. I fly all of the time, all over the world and never wear shoes, and other than the above-mentioned incident in Indonesia have never been asked to do so. Strange...
That is very strange. Why would TSA even be concerned about such a thing? Putting shoes on has nothing whatsover to do with airport or airline security. Out of curiosity, what airport (or airports) was that? My experience has been similar to seohsreven's. I've done a lot of traveling which included going barefoot through some 23 different airports mostly in the US, but a few in other parts of the world. And nobody in any airport - with one exception in Papeete, Tahiti, by some security guard as I was walking toward the plane - has ever told me I had to have on shoes or said anything negative to me about my bare feet.
I've only flown from Schiphol (Amsterdam) to Glasgow, but had no problem at either airport, and I spent quite a few hours at Glasgow since I had to take a bus that left like 5 hours after the plane landed. No comments at all, positive or negative, and I did nothing to hide my feet.
Yes I see were this is going fly barefoot & naked that will allay all thier fears of hidden bombs & explosives! Bring It On!:cheers2:
I never fly, only done so once in my life and don't plan on doin' it again if I don't have to. But if I did I'd definintly try the barefoot approach
I've been barefoot in a couple of airports without any problem, but I don't fly much anyway. Security has become outrageously ridiculous, and the video shows that. One airport I was in confirmed that I wasn't supposed to bring a lighter on board the plane. but the odd thing is I was given a pack of matches. Go figure.
That's because a lighter contains liquid, and you could have replaced the liquid fuel for something less innocent. Same reason as water bottles etc. etc.
Oh, yeah... I guess that makes sense. Before that happened though, I thought that nothing ignitable was allowed on planes because of the "light-a-fuse" factor.
Excuse me for being too conservative for this forum, but the thought of this option would make me nauseous. What if you got someone like this on the plane? Do you want to see anything below that car? Personally, in a free market, I'd have no problem with a naked airline existing. I just wouldn't use it. Anyway, on the subject of airports, avoid LaGuardia. That place sucks.
Hey, bro, beauty is in the eye of the beholder (not that I care for that photo personally)! If you think LaGuardia is bad, try Ninoy Aquino International Airport in the Philippines; like LaGuardia only far dirtier, more run down, and about 10% as efficient. I've had red tape experiences there that make Indonesia look like the Netherlands...
I'm sure the naked airline would absolutely love it if all their customers were like that - the greediest airlines make obese people buy two seats! Think of how many seats they could sell him...in first class!
