Lib...Coercive secularists = PC wordgame. You know it and I know it...for all practical purposes, it was an atheist regime.

I disagree, spook. These people didn't kill and torture in the name of atheism. COERCIVE secularism was merely a tool to help promote their agenda (just like religious nuts).

They forced "atheism" on the people by pressure and some by physical intimidation, but it was not in the name of "No God", it was in the name of furthering their totalitarian agenda.

ah but to a regious mind, no god means no god. all things mr Bush is doing is in the name of god and country, in that oreder so it is OK...now now now, I know MANY religious folks and institutions disagree with bush, I was just trying give context to my statement. a better example would have been Hussien. Claimed a religious doctrine but nothing he did for his people was in accordence with his faith. his repression had one purpose, to keep hisself in power, just like stalin. both claim ideaologies they failed to represent.

But, what I am saying is that religious people did these things (and continue to) in the name of "God" and SOLELY FOR THE PURPOSE...

Soviets did not. They didn't do just in the name of "no god".

Lib, I'd have to go back to history and match the actions of the individuals in power to their personal ideology to really present a good counter. Yeah, the term coercive seclarism is certainly a term that would have applied to many situations in that period.

What I'm getting at is that the ideology and actions of the Soviet Communists produced a state that was essentially devoid of religion...we're splitting hairs on definitions...IMO, atheist works in that regard. You've got to remember, I came of age in the immediate post-McCarthy era...certain notions are ground into me.

Now that religion is officially OK in Russia again, the Orthodox Church is Establishment...they're beginning to bludgeon minority religions, with tacit government approval. Here we go again...:(

I never said they werent, but I tell you flat out, it isnt Christainity that cause us to invade iraq or afghanistan.
so you can seriously only look back the last couple hundred years> you said all.
you are severley ignorant if you believe that.
I am aware people have and are killing for god.
you seem to be unaware that it happens for other reasons too.
