Atheism is a shared common belief among its followers that there is no Deity and/or Deities. Many try to argue in a roundabout fashion that it's simply a lack of a belief in these things, just to escape any sense of belief being tied in to them. But Atheism is the belief, based on lack of evidence, in no existence of a God.

If it simply came down to not having the evidence, an Agnostic just concludes that he doesn't know. Atheism, on the other hand, is an assertion on the matter.

This isn't its own form of Missionary work?

One has just as little evidence of no God as they do of the existence of God, and an Atheist, most likely due to "Occam's Razor", is choosing one over the other, and that's that there is no God.

Science is the Doctrine and the Scientific Method is the Scripture of Atheism.

I believe in my own unorthodox stuff. Religious people don't care because it doesn't fall in line. Atheists don't like it because I won't fall in their line either. People who don't care, don't care. Which leaves a very small percentage of people who actually give a shit.

If someone asks me though, and I'm in a hurry. I just say I'm an impartial atheist.

Hold on, I'm gonna have to check the scriptures on this one...

    http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/religious-experiences-shrink-part-of-brain/
"Religious Experiences Shrink Part of the Brain"
"A study links life-changing religious experiences, like being “born again,” with atrophy in the hippocampus

The results showed significantly greater hippocampal atrophy in individuals reporting a life-changing religious experience. In addition, they found significantly greater hippocampal atrophy among born-again Protestants, Catholics, and those with no religious affiliation, compared with Protestants not identifying as born-again."

That's not a good example. There's plenty of Christian billboards as well. Doesn't have to do with whether it's on a billboard or not. Atheists are on a mission to end religion.

  11. Not all atheists are on a mission to end religion. Some of them simply believe there is no God and don't care what other people do with their lives.

Well I wish I encountered more of them I'll say. But perhaps I'm being hypocritical by caring what they do. I think Religion should be preserved, however. It is in dire need of a transmutation, but not an annihilation.

Interesting. But you didn't report the rest of the story. Subjects reporting no religious affiliation showed significantly greater apathy than Protestants who did not report a "born again" experience. So apparently atheism and agnosticism also rot your brain. http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0017006
Funny the reporting in popular media doesn't mention that. Would you consider it misleading?

They simply reported not being affiliated with a particular religion. (But still reported a "born-again" experience.)
Just because they reported no religious affiliation doesn't automatically make them agnostic or atheist.

I kinda think reporting a "born again" experience places one pretty firmly on the side of religion, or at least a spirituality that is not normally professed by most agnostics, much less atheists.

I have been "preached" to by atheists far more than by Christians. Some are quite fanatical about telling you how wrong you are, lol.

Yeah I definitely encounter a lot on here and also know plenty of people who are Atheists. What i dislike the most is how justified that they feel about all of it, while meanwhile just shitting all over people's own personal Spiritual subjective encounters with any sense of a Deity. There's such that attitude of intellectual superiority, like "oh, how silly of you to have any connection with something mysterious and otherworldly and unexplainable. Certainly must be some sort of illusion. Pity you ignorant theistic fools. If only you knew what I'm certain of."

Then why post in this particular forum? You are clearly being the instigative "preachy" one here with this thread, there is an entire subforum for Mysterious stuff and on a quick glance of the thread titles, I don't see one flat out proclamation against the stuff.

Same question to you, why post in this forum?

I personally don't really see much "preaching" in this forum, particularly to the non-intended audience. Occasionally some videos will be posted, where there is some subsequent dialogue that could perhaps be construed as "preachy" but other than that, it's mostly philosophical and science discussion it seems.

i don't think i've ever met an athiest street preacher, but i've sure run into a lot of self proclaimed "christian" ones.

usually right after they've been given a bowl of watery soup at a homeless shelter.
