I just want to see the reasons, I personally am going to vote for Kerry based on the research I have done and information I have seen and collected over the past 3 years. I just want to compare notes really, see how the other side lives. No bashing, calm persuasive disccussion. I am curious now that the time is getting close.
He has improved the education system with the No Child Left Behind Act, protected us from terrorists with the Patriot Act, improved the economy by giving tax relief to people and corporations. He believes in traditional values and prays all the time.
Ok cool a good place to start. Can you explain to me the no child left behind act and how it is helping or how it affects you? As far as how Bush personally affected my education, after he was in office for about a year, all of the art scholarships at my school were cut because of a lack of funding. Im in alot of debt right now that I might not have had because I was one of the people who actually had and maintained the scholarship, Again I will have to disagree, I had to move back home ater college because I could not afford to move out with the only job I was able to get, I get paid well but I dont have healthcare since I graduated, so my only option is too buy COBRA health insurance which has a darling price of 500 a month. Im going to have to find apart time job to go along with my fulltime and work 7 days a week in order to move out and advance my career. Also if he did give a tax break to corporations, that does not help me at all, a soon to be small business owner. Yes he does say that, but I dont really know what this means. His values do not seem all that traditional to me, but we must of had different traditions. Your right though he sure does talk about praying alot. and, have you read the Patriot Act?
The patriot act is single most destructive piece of legislation in history. "Those who will sacrfice freedom for security deserve neither." - Ben Franklin. No child left behind is also a very misguided bill. Schools in Colorado may have to close their doors becasue the students are simply not able to meet the standards set by this bill. They will loose funding, primarily because we have a high Hispanic population. The majority of the tax break went to the wealthiest of Americans, who really don't need more money to spend. It's call "marginal propensity to consume". Give a poor person a dollar the will spend it, give a wealthy person a dollar they hold it. The tax breaks did little to help this economy and it created the largest debt in history. We will be paying that back... don't kid yourself. Maybe he does pray a lot. He needs to. He has send over a thousand innocent American men a women to die killing three thousand Iraqi's who are trying to defend their nation against an oil-hungry colonialist. If you think oil has nothing to do with this war then you need to think again.
3000 Iraqis? I suspect the actual figure falls somewhere between 15,000 and 20,000. Lets also not forget the approximately 9-10,000 US soldiers who have been injured or permanently disabled concerning whom this administration and the supposedly "liberal" media has been unsurprisingly silent (along with the Pentagon which does not tally the wounded and disabled into its casualty reports).
Actually it's estimated to be between 13,000-17,000 Iraqis, and yes, around 9,000 soldiers have been injured but the number who are serriously injured or disabled is thousands lower. But back on topic, I support Bush because I agree with the majority of his policies, though not everything, but far more then any other person running, if I made a list of who I'd want to win, it'd go: -Republican -Libertarian -Constitutional -Democrat -Nader -Green -Socialist

I support his stance on the war on terror, Iraq, the UN and what not and pretty much all his foreign policy. I support his cutting taxes, stance on health care, education, guns, gay marriage, human cloning ban and his wanting to drill for oil in Alaska. Also, his support to get a man back on the moon and to mars I greatly support. 1 thing that I really don't agree with him on though is stem cell research.
Yeah, I heard on NPR today that the figure is estimated to be near 100,000 Iraqis. It is heartbreaking. And Bush continues to feign an upbeat, optimistic picture of the situation. He's SICK!
NCLB may have some value in expecting schools to live up to certain standards; I simply want it to be funded fully so it doesn't saddle local schools and state governments with the cost of implementing these federal requirements. The result of not paying for this program (as Bush said he would) is that local districts must ask for more money locally in the form of tax levies. Part of the tax relief you are talking about goes to companies when they send jobs overseas. Income through overseas offices is not subject to income tax, so we do not get that revenue. I am not sure that we have seen anything specific regarding protection because of the Patriot Act (but I am not denying that it is possible either).
Bush has..... Squandered our position in the war on terror to the point that the world views us as the bad guy. Iraq is a quagmire that is bleeding billions of taxpayers money into Halliburtons pockets at the expense of our troops lives. We are a pariah in the UN having rolled over them to start an unjust war. Our foriegn policy is a shambles because we have alienated most of the world. His tax policy only benefits you if you make more than $200K a year provided you are callous enough to take that benefit at the expense of everyone else. He doesn't believe people who happen to be of the same sex should be able to get married. Scuse me massa!!!!!!!! He has offered education and healthcare rhetoric but no additional money or support. He's agains't human cloning.....damn I thought all life was sacred. He wants to further RAPE the environment by drilling for oil in one of the few remaining pristine wildernesses. It would take 10 years to drill and produce only 2 years of oil output. Lord save us from this maniac. And where the hell is he gonna get the money to put another man on the moon with a $7 trillion deficit. http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/ Kid you're cute and all but you are too young to be this wrong. Think, please think. Like on the stem cell thing, you're right there. Please think!!!! dump bush, vote kerry
Now now, just discussion no one gets mad, just calm persuasive arguements. Im not going to discuss the war any further becasue I belive he has made such a series of mistakes with the war that any general would have resigned by now. He has dropped the ball on this one. The tax relief means nothing to me, the rich get a break (I am in the middle class bracket) and companies who outsource jobs are getting a break, I am sure that some good corporations who need the money are getting sme help from this tax cut, but by doing this he will further push for the McDonaldization of our nation while we continue to lose mom and pop shops and small businesses in favor for massive conglomerates with increasingly inferior products and service. Most of the programs Bush says he puts into place are there, the problem is they do not get fully funded, leaving the people who are affected by the law to pick up the tab. That seems to me like a dick (cheney jkn) move. And realy i do not understand the health care issues but I do know that when Bush shakes my grandmothers hand to get her vote he is picking her social security pocket at the same time. Drill for oil in Alaska, hmmm no thanks, in the beginning of te administration, Bush changed the development of a hydrogen powered car from a 10 year plan to a 40 year plan. His backers and while family clout and power comes from oil companies, of course he will not explore any other power methods because if we stopp using oil the oil fat cats lose a lot of revenue and switching what they do would be a pain in the ass i guess. After all that, the moon? We cannot even figure out what the hell is going on in our country anymore, the moon and other such lofty aspirations are for times of peace and prosperity (remember those 8 years with clinton for the most part?)
Do you realize that funding embryonic stem cell research will almost inevitably lead to "therapeutic" cloning? Are you also aware that there are many alternative (non-embryonic) sources of stem cells that have already yielded dozens of new medical treatments?
This is true. The rest of the moderized world supports theraputic cloning because of it's benefits to research and development of stem cell lines. The issue here is with autoimmune compatibility. It is true that if (more like when) we have a better understanding of stem cell specialization we can use an adults own cells to build a stem cell line for treatment. Until then you need a stem cell line that will not be rejected by your immune system to get treatment. This means that in order to be available to a large percentage of the population we would need thousands of stem cell lines. Not the few lines Bush has agreed to continue research with. I don't think anyone will argue that the goal it to use adult stem cells to treat disease. The question is: do we want this in ten years of fifty years? PS: Thanks for all the correction on our enemy casualties... I must admit I was guessing (poorly).
By itself, research cloning might seem like a "small point," but not when coupled with Kerry's adamant support for the state-sanctioned slaughter of ~1.5 million unborn babies every year: http://www.nrlc.org/empba04/recentwordsdontsquare.html http://www.nrlc.org/EandP/bush43record.pdf
I love all the horror terms you put in there, huck. Ever thought of leaving out emotion and appealing just to logic? We aren't that easily swayed here.
