without getting too cynical I agree with OPs rigid point. I understand the limitations of happiness and how that ties in with the ego without being cynical, OP is right. but it is better to be positive about living to die. May as well because you're a creature who suffers from emotion so be good to it!
Well, I said it SEEMS misleading.... when you take the first line literally Just because death is certain doesn't mean we are living to die.
^ it's a philo question (obv.) and technically he is right (yeah), so he wants to know if anyone has a good grasp on why this is the direction of life/the universe for humans. chea chea. It's a pet peeve of mine, when people misunderstand.
It's misleading in this fashion.... Christmas is coming up before too long and so is Halloween. So if you're going to celebrate Halloween I guess I could ask "why are we celebrating Halloween to get to Christmas?" ... oh wait. we're not... they just come in that order. Just being dying comes after living doesn't mean that living is TO get to death.
it's a loaded question. misleading is a totally different meaning. :| c'mon ppl. You can disagree with his attitude but the d*mn question makes perfect sense and asks what he the OP wants. It's leading perfectly -- jesus christ lol.
I for one don't intend on dying :2thumbsup: Yes i know everyone before me passed into the great beyond but eventually someone has to beat the system hotwater
Okay, loaded question then. good luck w that, hotwater. I plan to live to be 130... but I have my doubts on the forever part.
I find great comfort in knowing that we all die eventually actually. Not that I am busy with death normally and neither do I think it's a loaded subject (not for me at least). The answer to why though is simply nature. We wear down. Why? Nature! So we are urged to do 'our thing' perhaps (because our time on earth is limited). Yes that was speculation again
I know we're told by the "cool" philosophies to live in the present, but I find the past and the future much more comfortable places to be."Living in the present" is easily said, but harder to actually realise. The past holds so many comforts, and it's traumatisms have already passed,so they can't happen again, and dreams of a a better future often function as a salve of compensatory wish-fantasies that are at times very seductive. It is my theory that the "present" doesn't really exist,as it is impossible to actually grasp it's true meaning and existence.I know I'm being contrary, but whenever I hear "Live in the moment" I think..."Hang on a second"...Eh?
It's absolutely harder to realise the present. It's not something that can every be fully achieved, but it's something to strive for. I believe you should learn from your past, and be hopeful about the future. There's no need to dwell on or live in the past or the future though. My opinion, and the opinions of the "cool" philosophers are indeed just that. Opinions .
dude seriously you're not even grasping what you're being told. who the fuck said death is a loaded question? My christ, his title is. FUCK facepalm kameyameya levels dude.
I like his/her contrary. If you argue your thoughts = where you are, then you are always not completely in the moment, but life is experienced in the moment as is thinking, as is not thinking, as is anything. there isn't 3 plains of time -- that would be silly and useless. Only the ever-going present. Is what the cool hippy philosophy is saying.
I say hey why not, what am I livn for, raise up a family children and wife tell me friend hasn't that been done before.
