It's very simple. Iraq, right now, is not capable of maintaining a democratic government. As soon as the US leaves, it will be taken over by conservative religious fanatics, just like Afghanistan did after the withdrawal of the USSR. And while most people already know that the war was a mistake from day 1, actually seeing Iraq get into a state worse than it was in under Saddam will equal the US government admitting that the war was a complete waste of money and lives.

I'm sorry Chole... hell I'm worried about this thing and my boyfriend and I aren't even fully engaged yet and he has basic and AIT left. Does that stop me? No.

And why are we there? Didn't you know, American Democracy is the only way to go. And we have to show them how to work.

Whoever came up with that is a fucking asshole.

I'd rather see the US have to admit they were idiots than have them waste any more money or lives on a place that will be forever dependent on us.

Of course you'd rather see them admit they are idiots. We all would. Just like they need to admit they were wrong about criminalizing marijuana. But it's not gonna happen.

We are in Iraq for two primary reasons:

    1) To seize control over the country's rich oil reserves.

    2) To seize control over the country and build military bases to be used for further military action in the Middle East (Iran, Syria, etc.).

Because George Bush is a trustworthy president who has never lied to the American public to further his agenda.

And that is exactly why I hate being an American... course unless I can get a good farm and vet job from my farm in either Ireland or Australia... I'm stuck here.

It has nothing to do with "revenge." Iraq didn't attack the US.

Iraq did not attack us. Iraq is simply the scapegoat for the "terrorism" that Bush claims to be fighting.
My cousin is in Iraq as well as a couple friends of mine.

That was actually another unfounded allegation Smokey. Just another in a roster of claims for which no proof existed.

But more broadly speaking one could say it was "revenge" in an economic sense, since the real catalyst for which Saddam was targetted for removal and replacement by new puppets was his decision to break from Washington's long established global dollar standard for oil sales to the Euro standard.

At that point the imperative to set a forceful example to dissuade the rest of the OPEC nations in the region from following suit became central to MIC and US oil industry interests. Every other excuse (aka lie) used to justify our war of aggression (aka War Crime) was just PR for public perception management.

Oh thats right we went over there because of the WMD. Yet the only WMD they ever had were given to them in the early 80's by Regan and Bush. So thats how Dubya knew they had em!

Nah, that was just the first of the claims used to mask the actual economic reasons.

No we gave weapons to Iraq to attack Iran and we gave Iran weapons to attack Iraq, but neither of them listened. Saddam used the weapons to invade Kuwait!
