Have always had a soft spot for Sidney Bechet... Armstrong to jazz is Marley to reggae, so i won't bother... Nina Simone is one of my fav jazz singers, Miles Davis was a huge influence for me. John Scofield is definately notable. Being a drummer at heart, it'd be terrible for me not to mention Buddy Rich, the greatest drummer of all time!

As in #1 favorite? There is no #1 for me in jazz or rock. There's too much great stuff out there.

Jimmy Smith is an important starting point for me as a jazz buyer. Afterwards I discovered other artists.

Definatly Thelonius Monk, his piano skills are amazing, has anyone ever seen him play, he plays with his finger completly flat. You watch him and you like how the hell can he play that good.
