hello munchkins i have this PLAN in mind where i want to try and give my "wardrobe" [i.e. my clothes not my actual cupboard where i keep 'em all] an overhaul before my 21st birthday, which is on november 5th. by this i mean chucking out all the stuff that doesn't fit / i no longer wear, going op-shopping and maybe making a few new things or modifying some old ones. oh and my birthday pressie to myself might be some cool colours through my hair and some braids...hmmm... SO...is there anyone here who feels like doing the same, who has some free time and creativity over the next ten days [or however long you want]? i thought if there was, maybe we could make a group / team project of it...come back here to share ideas, say what we're up to, give links to photos of clothes we've modified. if you want to join in you can spend as little or as much time / money / effort as you like...personally i cant spend a lot of either as i am studying for exams at the moment but i do want to do a little bit. op-shopping is good for me as i dont have a lot of cash, but also making a couple of pairs of bellbottoms with funky material is quick and inexpensive...buying cool shoelaces [bright colours] is cheaper and quicker than buying new shoes but can have just as nice an effect...and getting some glitter-pens that are especially for writing on material with can help jazz up some tired pants or a top. if you don't want to participate, but you have some ideas for me [or anyone else who joins in]...then post here as well! so come on...dont you want to play in this fun project? who can make their wardobe totally funky and new in just ten days??
I sounds fun But ten days is quite short time. Maybe we can start a group anyway, for a longer time. And then share ideas and things we have done, with our clothes of course. Good luck with your wardrobe and Happy birthday! both of you...
My birthday is June 1st....but I want to join too! My wardrobe is in awful need of repair and I get paid in a couple days.
welcome yakima, bella_donna and lace_and_feet i like your idea yakima of this taking longer than just ten days. i suppose personally i want to try to get a large part of mine done by november 5th to create a base for ongoing funkifying but we should keep this thread as long as people want it. i'd love to hear what everyone else wants to do! tell us about your clothes, what you're looking for, what you want to fix or make. is there a certain look you're going for? maybe even post websites of the kind of clothes you like. about my clothes...one of the things i want to keep in mind is having a lot of layers in my clothes. i live in hobart where the weather is very screwy...one minute cold, the next hot. so layers that i can take on and off work really well. over the last couple of years i've switched from style to style to style. i've especially played with the goth / punk styles so i've got a fair few clothes with red on them or black on them. a lot of dark, deep colours and zips, buckles, chains...now i want to try for something a bit lighter. i'm thinking gypsy / elf if that makes sense. i like the idea of being an elf... so long, pointed hats, flowing skirts, stripes, sandals. i've already ~cut out material and partly sewn two long, pointed hats [the kind that hang down your back] ~cut out material for a skirt, knee length. it's black crushed velvet with silver stars, with a layer of white crushed velvet with gold stars underneath ~cut some army green cargo pants off below the knee and recreated the bottom half of them with purple fur to make flares [yet to sew] yakima, bella_donna and lace_and_feet, how are you guys going? what do you want to do?
I really like bright colours and a lot of patterns. A couple of years ago I had a lot of brown and sand but I'm so fed up with these so-called boring colours, even though I still like them. I used to have mostly dark colours but have gradually become more colourful. I feel more like myself in bright colours I started tie-dying almost two years ago so that is one thing I will do more. I also found the joy in patchwork and crocheting. Last year I made a green crocheted vest, I just love it! My next goal is to make a pair of patchwork pants in green, grey and purple. I also do makrame for dekorations. Talking about elves, this spring I made my own dress for the ball in school. I made a dress from the 14th century. I might find a picture soon. Take care everyone and good luck with all of your projects!
i'm in. i definately need to get rid of some clothes, but filling the gap with new-old clothes would be awesome!
All my new clothes for the last 2 years have come from op-shops. I would love to do a wardrobe makeover. I would also love some ideas on how to remake my wedding dress and a bridesmaid dress that I don't know what to do with.
The main thing I want to do is replace my mostly frumpy, poor-fitting wardrobe with nicer pieces that are flattering and fit well. I'm not looking to change my style much, as my style is basic and works for me; I just want to improve it a bit. I also need to work on other things, like getting real shoes (I have been wearing the same pair of birkenstocks year-round for over 2 years now...I love them, but I need to branch out a bit). I've also cleaned out my bathroom of the excess of cheap makeup and will be slowly replacing it with nicer, more high-quality products. The bottom line is that my wardrobe and image is a bit outdated; my outside is no longer reflecting how I feel on the inside; the same style that worked for me in high school doesn't quite work for me now, et cetera.
I'll join! I've been reworking lots of old clothes for years, and have a few projects started. This means I'll have to get my camera fixed though.
yay!!! go team!!! team consists of the following VERY SEXY people::: yakima ~ wants more bright colours for her bright, funky self bella_donna ~ also a november gal; cleaning out her w-drobe lace_and_feet ~ lookin' to show the world her new, sexxxy self sugaree13 ~ out with the old; in with the new!! the lizard queen ~ working on projects as we speak the mighty toenail ~ crazy chicken; more gypsy; less punk ------------------------------------------------------------------- the other night i: ~ went though all my clothes and removed up all the ones i haven't worn in ages [over a year and a half] and all the ones that don't fit right, the ones that need repairing or washing and the ones that won't fit the style i want ~ folded and tidied up all the clothes that were left ~ with the clothes i removed, i sorted them into: > clothes i definately don't want - to be sold in a garage sale or given to charity > clothes that i might wear again someday if i want to change my style somewhat - folded at the back of my cupboard > clothes i won't wear but might be useful as part of costumes - i do children's entertainment work, themed birthday parties etc and some of the the clothes might go toward costumes e.g a long black dress i have would be good for a witch costume ~ i've also cleaned out all my hairclips and hairbands, throwing out broken or damaged ones. i then bought i bunch more bands, clips and two necklaces. >..only four days 'till november 5th! my next jobs to do are: - finish sewing the clothes i've started - go opshopping - buy some new shoelaces - talk to the hairdresser about getting some colour in my hair
rargH! well its november 5th so ive finished playing have fun if you guys decide to keep this going happy birthday to me!!
I was thinking maybe you could try making a pair of pants with zippers halfway down the leg to wear when its cold but you would be able to unzip them if it got hot out. I recently reorganized my closet gave away stuff I didnt want and the stuff that no one would take I either donated or used as scrap fabric. Like I had some old lingerie that was sort of outdate and reused the fabric on a bodice holder I had given to me but had a moth hole in it. The hole was right where the bust part is..... So I sewed the black lacey stuff from my lingerie sewed it where the hole was and voila new "original" bustier LOL I have an old attic that I actually has some holes that cold comes through and I took some old junk scraps that I had leftover and put them in there to seal the holes till I have it all redone. I had no use for the scraps they were random and small so I reused them instead of buying insulation. How is everyone coming on there projects? I know I have been VERY busy lately sewin and stuff. Good luck guys
This thread is perfect, just what I needed (and im getting ideas from it like crazy so thanks guys). So lately ive been wanting to change my style from a bit darker to something that suits me better. I think someone else said the same thing. Right now im working on taking an old skirt that doesnt fit anymore and a pair of old jeans and putting them together so i can still wear them. The bottom of the jeans are ripped so ill make some bell bottoms out of them no-doubt. Oh! And just to throw this out there. If there are any T-shirts that dont fit you anymore but that your sort of attached to (band shirts especailly) I LOVE to make pillows out of them. I have three now.
I just finished making a pair of patchwork pants. I hade like 5 pairs of old pants, got some of them from my dad and brother. So I cut out a hell lot of pieces and then puzzled them together. I'm pretty satisfied with the result but, you know, it can always be better
This thread is perfect! I've changed styles so much that I DESPERATELY need to work on mine. I still want my band shirts but I don't really want/need the rest of my old goth/emo/punk stuff. That's recycable I think, though, and I should be able to work it out. Any ideas would be so appreciated!
