well for me its a competitioin between Paul Mccartney (EVERYONE KNEOWS LOL), John Entwistle (THE WHO), John Deacon (QUEEN),
but it would have to be John Entwistle the ox bassman...

    John Entwistle. No Doubt.

He's why it's fun watching The Who perform, because the rest of them are all over the place (especially Keith and Pete) and then they pan over to John, and you wouldn't know if he's alive most times, but they pan to his hands and they are just everywhere.

But then again, there's also Paul McCartney, who I think is very underrated as a Bassist.

i would say victor wooten because he's my fav. bassist overall but he isn't just straight ahead rock...phil lesh is probably the closest to a rock n roll player that i would just love.

Paul McCartney! He has some truly amazing basslines on Ram (eg. Long-Haired Lady, Heart of the Country).

i know my tastes are pretty modern, but if the only sound i could hear for the rest of my life was dirk lance playing bass, i'd die happy.
