A good raunchy shrieking black metal scream? Oh yes! Those hardcore/metalcore vocals? No, not at all.

 

howard jones has a badass scream. He also sounds really good live.

 

Tom Araya had the best scream, Sven Erik Kristiansen also had a hellish scream...

haha yeah i have to agree wiht that, i scream for a metal band also, but if i could find a girl to do it with me heh well shit....

 

Seconded for the sake of truthfulness.
Also, grunts are only properly used in doom metal. I like them drawn out over several seconds per syllable.

Most people seem to revile Maniac (ex-Mayhem) but I have to disagree with them. You should check the song Symbols of bloodswords off of Wolf's lair abyss and I think you'll know what I mean.

I'm more into the deep, guttural growls or evil, piercing shrieks. I'll leave screams for bands like Bullet for my Valentine...God I can't stand them. No disrespect for people who like them, but I've just really started loathing hardcore and a lot of metalcore.

Yeah, i just assumed the original poster meant harsh vocals in general... hardcore vocals, grunts, black metal screams...

About grunts... Esoteric have the most insane vocals ever. And as I said, I think grunts befit (funeral) doom metal better than death metal or grindcore anyway.

 

I'm not really fond of grunts in general. I do like Bongzilla though, that's one of the few exceptions.

Chino (Deftones) and Palumbo (Glassjaw) are pretty epic (or should I say were) and of course Mike Patton
some the shit that guy does is fucken amazing.

Dani (Cradle) has his moments I guess (love the piercing shrieks) but then I dunno.. that screech starts getting to me after a while.
Dudes from Sikth are interesting at times too. and the latest DEP vocalist. and Serj (System), when he lets rip.
