hey guys...was in my sociology lesson today and we was talking about ethnicity...a topic came up on rastafarianism and my teacher said that rastas dislike white people... as i understood is it not the rastafarian belief that everyone originates from ethiopia and that the white way of life is babylon...or is it that rastas generally hate jus white people...can anyone clear this up 4 me? x x x
rastafari just hate oppression/babylon in any form, from what i understand. not that they hate white people, although some of them i'm sure do, but it's not part of the belief system. they do not like their culture being beaten out of them, but outright racism is definitely a babylonian concept. the path is unique to the individual, your body is your temple and you find jah in your heart. it's not about skin color. it's about life, love, purity, naturality, unity... rasta is so cool
since beliefs vary so much, there is a huge gap in what rastas consider babylon to be and the white race's role in babylon. to the Leonard Howellists, white people are generally not allowed to be rastas, and they are evil because the black race is superior and more spiritually pure. Garveyites believe in ethic separation (africa for africans). Bobos believe different stuff, maroons believe different stuff. some rastas just use their religion to justify their hatred for whites. (as the whites of the KKK do) generally, though, in today's world, it will be hard to find a rasta who actually hates whites. though, they are still there.
I think true rastas who really understand the doctrines don't hold a grudge on any race. After all it's one love right?
I definitely don't live the typical white way of life. I'm a very spiritual girl who's bonded with nature. I experienced a spiritual growth spurt today, as I fell in love with a brilliant man and began a little journey of my own creating my dreadlocks. I've become rather interested in the Ras Tafari movement. I don't call myself a rasta, but I try to take the faith as an example for my own life.
Rasta, much like Asatru, has unfortunately garnered a large portion of racists. Whereas Asatru-believing Racists tend to discriminate against Blacks and other ethnicite,s Rasta racists discriminate against Whites. It's not an accurate representation of the belief itself, only of the twisted fews belonging to the inevitable minority of it.
