We whites, Cushy in the cookie- cutter ex-urbs Of life, Continue to flee with impunity That shrill city of mammoth shadows Called death.
I hate how white people are villanized by that phrase. White Flight. Why should white people remain in an area that becomes plagued with crime and violence after becoming populated by blacks. White people in most cases (yes there are exceptions) prefer to live in communities where they are safe to take the dog for a walk or let the wife push the baby in a stroller around the neighborhood. While the contributing causes of why black neighborhoods or ghettos can be argued, the cold reality is that from one end of this country to the other, wherever you find dense populations of black people you will find violent crimes such as shootings and other gang related bullshit. Guess what??? They don't have to do that dumb shit... but they do!!! It's just accepted, but when whitey wants to move away from that kind of wasted existence he is made out to be a hateful racist. Don't bother calling me a racist, I'm not afraid of that word and besides I believe in oneness of all mankind. The problem is that we all have serious flaws to work out and its not just white people that are the problem.
This is a poem about death, a tongue and cheek ironic tone because there is no arguing with the ghetto of non-existence....
My neighborhood consists of a large amount of Black people fleeing lousy black neighborhoods, so it gets more complicated. Of course, those who have decided white collar crime (mostly whites) is less damaging than blue collar crime (larger percentage of blacks, but plenty of whites), might not be reassured by the fact that more people die of medical mistakes per year-many more- than are murdered. Insurance companies are much more dangerous than guns...
For sure, the worst criminals of all are well dressed white men with shiny shoes, barbie wives and nice cars, but those same white criminals live in nice quiet neighborhoods. Sorry I took your poem in this direction. It struck a cord with me because I also live around many black people and often our talks revolve around the evil of the white man and they can not listen any criticism in return and I guess I vented in your thread. I apologize for that. I do like the poem though.
Around here, everyone's discussing the evils of the RICH man, regardless of race or creed. Where in south Carolina are you? My sister is near Ashville, North Carolina
