    While We're Young

Today is Thursday - I never went to movies on Thursday. But, I'm retired now with nada better to do than bike down to the Cinema. I actually had a private screening of this indie film. Srsly, I have been in matinees where just a half dozen ppl show up, but I was the only one for this entire movie.

The movie centers on middle-aged documentary filmmaker Josh (Ben Stiller) and his wife Cornelia (Naomi Watts). Josh has been working on a documentary for 8 years and is blocked. He and Cornelia are having a stagnant marriage, where she tried but couldn't have children (as all their friends have).

Plus, Josh has personal problems with control issues and inadequacy which prevent him from taking advice from his father-in-law Leslie (Charles Grodin) an accomplished documentary maker.

After one of his lectures on documentary filmmaking, Josh is approached by a young couple, Jamie (Adam Driver) and Darby (Amanda Seyfried) who were auditing his class. Jamie says how much he admires Josh's work and Josh is flattered to be seen as a mentor to the younger generation.

Well, the young couple manage to become friends with the older couple and they follow Jamie's idea to make a documentary. Josh is pleased to assist as a mentor and both he and Cornelia go thru changes as they gravitate to these aspiring new artists.

Of course that is not the end of the movie - things get complicated along the way, ppl get agry with each other, self-assessment occurs and the usual messy things of being in relationships. But that's all I'm sayin' you should really watch it unfold in due time.

I don't know how many ppl will enjoy this movie. I was the only one in the theater today who did. It was well received by the aggregate critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with 84% giving it a fresh rating. Only 65% or audiences liked it.
