As we're getting older, we continue to lose some of our childhood heroes from film, tv, and sports. Who is the celebrity whose death has affected you the most?

I can't think of anyone in the last year, but Mort Sahl's death killed me... The 2nd worst thing (outside of myself) that tore me up. He was elderly, but I had seen/met him 4 times. They tell you not to meet your heroes, but I'm glad I did meet him, just sad the producer and owner of the theater was around, and wish I had more time to talk with him.. Back then, I actually had something to look forward to in life when his show would stream every Thursday, taking questions.

I love music so I feel sad, and often listen to their music in remembrance. In last year Jimmy Buffet and Toby Keith.

    David Lindley.

    Brad Houser.

    Dwight Tilley.

At one point or another I worked with all three.

Wife - "OMG *somebody* from *this and that* died!"

    Me - "Who? What?"

Is an interaction that happens often.

Jimmy Buffet, I wish they could have buried that damn overplayed overrated song with him.

The only celeb death which has ever really hit me was Fred Rogers. I’m usually otherwise oblivious as to who it was, or just don’t really feel much of anything at all; celebrity doesn’t mean a whole lot to me, even folks whose work I have enjoyed over the years like Donald Sutherland and James Earl Jones.

although it was a decade ago, the death of Richard Attenborough changed my life drastically. He would have celebrated his 100th birthday about a month ago.

There's obviously no such thing as a universally beloved celebrity, but I like to think he will always come closest to that ideal. Even critics of his children's show seem to all hold him personally in very high regard.

Not much affected, but I'm sorry to see Dr. Ruth go. She was so entertaining and straight forward when it came to sex. I think she had a big impact on people's sex lives. I think her motto could be "if it feels good, do it!" She encouraged people to have sex at a time when sex was not talked about so openly, especially alternative lifestyles.
