Perhaps this isn't random enough to be in this forum, but I don't like posting in the other forums much because they receive so little traffic and posts never get replied to. So anyway, not long ago I was sitting in front of the computer when I suddenly felt my right nostril began to run. I rubbed my nose and when I looked at my hand it was covered in blood. My nose was dripping pretty good for about five minutes. Well, I have never had a full-blown nosebleed in my life where it goes on for several minutes. I was somewhat concerned, so I went online and Googled nosebleed to see what the possible causes might be. One immediately struck me, and that was the consumption of bad whey protein. I have been drinking whey protein shakes for the past several weeks as I am trying to build muscle. I spent the extra money and went with something good, which comes from grass-fed cows. Well it appears that it is not uncommon for whey protein to contain elevated levels of arsenic from soil contamination of the grass that the cows eat, and this can cause nosebleeds. I am a bit concerned now and am wondering if I should continue using this stuff. But I cannot be certain that is the cause of the nosebleed, either.
i don't know about the whey protein, but i used to get nosebleeds like that all the time. even just sitting up too fast could start one, and it always feels like my nose is running (snot), but it's just pouring blood. i even got a nosebleed like that while on psychedelics. that was kinda scary. if i were you, i might stop taking the whey protein, or at least take less of it. maybe calculate how much to take to equal less than 20% of your calorie intake. (then protein from food could be 10% to get you to the 30% that orison quoted) when you get a nosebleed, don't tip your head back, that just makes the blood flow down your throat. pinch your nose where the bone ends and hold it like that. it will clot pretty quick (maybe 10 or 15 minutes). you can also roll up some toilet paper and make a tampon for your nose.
All 4 of my granddaughters get nosebleeds. I don't know why. It must be inherited from their mother since one of them is not my son's biological daughter.
same here. i get nothing all summer, then i get a nosebleed every week or two during the winter. and those protein shakes do seem to dehydrate you a bit, even if you're not overdoing it (at least they do in my case). so that could add to the likelihood of a dry nose nosebleed.
If you think its the whey, see if you can get a testing kit or if regular testing kits work. We test our water regularly...i imagine those same strips work for something like that. but you do live in NY so it could be dry air...a good humidifier could help.
