I haven't been on here much the last week, just now getting some online time.

Most of you know that I usually send out e-mails in my travels (even when on a ship at sea) and the last one was on August 27 from Washington DC. I have been a little preoccupied here.

This trip was to stay with my mother in Missouri while my sister and her husband got away to visit family. They were supposed to leave on Saturday. Well Friday mom could not walk so we sent her by ambulance to the hospital. Turns out there was a hairline fracture in her hip and she was scheduled for surgery (pinning). So the vacation was postponed and all our time has been centered around the hospital.

Finally, by Tuesday things were stable enuf for my sister to fly out west but I had to hang around the hospital yesterday to see which rehab facility mom would be going to. It turned out to be a local one (I was afraid I would be driving all over Missouri on unfamililar roads yelling profanities at the little GPS voice - but I can find the place where they took her).

So, now things are a little more settled - I will be getting into a visiting pattern at the rehab place and spend more time at home with a Chihuahua who is having a ruf time with everyone in her life gone.

Oh yeah, we are about to get the remnants of that pop-up hurricane that hit Mexico and Texas, so I will be driving in some rain today. The weather has been great, cool and sunny but mostly seen from the hospital room window overlooking a soybean field. Yeah, I said I was going to St. Louis but I'm actually out in the country. It is a scenic drive to the rehab place down a two-lane country road thru woods and farmland. Or, at least it was yesterday.

    Will write later.

Aw, geez--I hope your mom gets to feeling better soon, Shale! Being incapacitated for any reason is no fun--I was hospitalized once when I was 18, and it wasn't any fun--especially since I had to spend St. Patrick's Day in the hospital--thank goodness I've got green eyes! LOL Anyway, here's hoping your mom feels better soon! :)

Thanx for all the well wishing. Unfortunately, my mom's hip is just the latest problem of a deteriorating health. Her mind is going and she does not eat, a symptom of that, so she is quite frail.

You know stories come to an end and yet somehow it is always later, not soon or even now. So, it was good that I had this visit with mom and we share some good times in lucid moments. Still it is disheartening to see a once vital and proud woman confused and helpless.
