    Hi, all.

Does anyone know where to download safe games like Space Invaders, original Asteroids or just play online for free like one could play in the early days of video games? Pong, Wolf Attack Sub or whatever it was called, or download regular bowling? No modern day high-tech needed. Something reasonably safe from viruses if downloadable, etc. If this is asking too much, my apologies in advance.

strong suspicion that ty's right, but anyway, just google atari emulators and atari roms.

nestopia's a good NES emulator, but the above games are even older than that.

    okay. thanks.

  5. Stella used to be a good atari emulator. I could run all the games on that.

Yesterday I bought a mini SnES with 21 pre loaded games. I bought it for about 4 of the games, and one of them usually costs over 100 on ebay for the SnES version, so spending 90€ on the console didn't phase me I believe if have paid near 200 for those 4 games alone.

I haven't played it yet though.

that works too, but i'm also sure every one of those games could be downloaded for free if the cost was an issue.

They can... But having the proper SNES controller really brings the nostalgia home.

i never owned a SNES, so i don't have any particular nostalgia for the controller. the NES controller was so awkward that i'm fine using the universal USB controller for that too. and sonic is the only sega game i emulate, and since every button does the same thing in that game it really doesn't matter.

now nintendo 64 games are just not right on an emulator. nothing works as a decent alternative to the z button on those store bought controllers.

yeah i tried usb controllers for emulator games on pc and its just not the same

the nintendo and super nintendo mini is more natural just like the actual original consoles (except for cord length)

they are probably going to do a 64 mini

the other benefit to emulators is the save state feature. i'm sure that has saved a few controllers from being rage-smashed.

Thanks for all the replies. I don't even know what most of these items are. Just having a reasonable facsimile of the original onscreen and using the arrow keys or space keys for a download is good enough. It is only something to do for a few minutes and then go back to what you were doing. For instance, there used to be a very good pinball game with all the sound effects of a rolling steel ball and only three keys were used to do the whole thing. One pulled the thing whatever it is called and put the ball into play. Two other keys hit the left or right flipper. Simple stuff or the old bowling game using about the same number of keys.

^ sounds like you miss the old flash games. seems like those aren't really around anymore, unfortunately. they really were good for wasting a few minutes, or maybe more if you've been drinking a bit.

basically, an emulator is a program that lets you play video games from a certain gaming system on your computer. and roms are those games. so if you were to download an atari emulator, it would allow you to play whatever atari games you download. and if you search for atari roms, that's where you download those games.
