Hey guys, hoping you can all help me. Next academic year, january to april kind of time i'm going to travel from my dad's in toronto to a friend's in peru. I need to know where to go on the way, what to do, anything you can tell me, weather, anything.
I'll probably be hitching most of it unless i can get my hands on a cheap bike or hippy van. I'll definitely be going through san fran to see my aunt, and boston to see relatives, but i can literally go anywhere and do anything.
I'm not thinking in terms of conventional tourism mostly, but places where cool stuff and people are, where things are buzzing, where i can get good kicks. And where i can busk to make money. Of course i'll do a lot of looking at amazing landscapes as well.
    Thank you all in advance.

Jesus Christ, is there no-where interesting to go? My plan for traveling was to go to all the places the nice people on hipforums told me to go to, but i guess it won't turn out like that.

Just follow major highways and look for signs that point to attractions along the way. There are too many things to count from Canada to Peru.

Fair enough, i just thought someone might say "come to tucsonville, it's great!!" and then i could have a sort of a plan. But i don't really need one.

I say come through Delaware, but there isn't much here except for a few nice folks like myself. Maybe one reason why I want to leave this place.

Hitching form Toronto to Peru? Fucking awesome, I say. Unconventional tourism indeed!

....you have no idea how jealous I am right now [IMG]....

In my humble opinion, tourist spots and attractions are overrated. There are sights everywhere you go. You say you'll be in Boston; I'd say check out New York, too. It's a great place. From S.F., you can visit L.A. I don't know what else.

I've been to Mexico and loved it. It's a fun place; enjoy it there. Latin America is awesome.

I agree, i just kind of want to know where the music scenes are good, you know, the places that are renowned for what goes on there - gigs parties etc.

If you are planning on hitching through mexico, I'd advise not being white. Otherwise you are in for a rude awakening.

Yeah my dad said that. I don't know what to do cos i really want to go, also to pick up some peyote cactus. I might buy a dirt cheap car if i can afford it, but that won't completely solve the problem.

A very good friend of mine is Mexican, and has a lot of family there of which he visits frequently. He has told me not to go anywhere in Mexico besides TJ without him, because of the way whites are treated (for the most part). It's very dangerous unless you have someone who knows their way around, expecially the further south you go. After reading your post I talked to him about hitching and he said, "tell your hippy buddy that if he hitch hikes through Mexico he better have a gun, and be ready to use it." Even his family who grew up in Mexico will not drive there without a gun.
It's mainly the rural areas that you would have to worry about, but it would really be against your interest to hitch.

Wherever your path takes you, be full of peace, love and care. I wish you good luck my friend.....PEACE

Thanks a lot man, and thank your friend for me. I ain't buying no gun, no chance, so i guess i'll give it a miss. Does TJ stand for Tijuana? Presumably Mexico City's alright. Shame that i'll miss the countryside though. I'll definitely travel around Arizona and New Mexico, so i guess i'll pick some up there. Cheers.
