If you’re looking for the ancestral home of all mankind, while you could probably find it on a map, you're better off looking within. It's the lawn you just diligently mowed in remembrance of a long ago savannah your ancestors tread over eons ago, it's untamed wilderness we all crave to return to, it's the beast, and the majesty that is africa Hotwater
I bet he wasn't serious and is just trying to get y'all worked up over nothing, since Africa is a continent and it's a little more mindbending to describe where a continent is, than a country (though many people seem to be like... "hey, Africa is a swell country!) personally. I think that's probably just because of Western Sahara and South Africa... naming things like that. My... word. I smell reefers and it is good.
The Romans used to call Africa a part of North Africa located rouughly where now is Tunisia. The name come to mean the whole continent way later, at the end of the middle age. If you are looking for the first place to be named Africa, take a plane to Tunis.
keep in mind that most people's only exposure to Africa in the media is whenever there's a famine, genocide, or civil war. If you wanna find africa head towards Europe, then go south. Stop whenever you cross the big sea. I'd go armed, and with enough bribe money to get out of a sticky situation. Don't have sex with any of the natives cause AIDS is very rampant. I think PJ O'Rourke summed it up best: "Africa is the place where human developement started and has long since stopped."
Africa may be found in central Los Angeles, and is bounded by Glendale on the North, Venice on the West, Long Beach on the South, and some yet unexplored terrain (Whittier? Fullerton?) on the East. Would-be explorers of this continent should be fully armed and should consult the local inhabitants before proceeding with their expedition. The wildlife in this region is unpredictable. Remains will not be returned to next of kin.
a lot of people take the us justice system for granted when travelling abroad. they dont always do things the same way in another country. say what you want about the racist bias and high cost of the whole thing, it's still better than spending the next ten years of your life locked up in some tropical hell hole for stepping on the wrong plant... and sub saharan africa is one the most aids stricken region on earth, couple that with high poverty, civil unrest, and entrenched fundamentalist religions and you get a scarcity of condoms. Africa is a beautiful, historical continent, but for the time being they're still dealing with a lot of issues from decolonialization... welcome to the us btw, hope we don't scare you off, immigration is what made this country great.
Here is the problem Africa is a continent NOT a country. America is just as fucked up. Being from South Africa we are not without it's problems but quit looking at the US through Rose Tinted glasses. Just seeing how your wonderful government treated it's citizens after Katrina proves you treat the white wealthy with better respect.
