where do you all like to go camping at? im interested in getting different experiences because camping is like my favorite thing to do.

i like to go camping in the sierras in california, about 4 hours from home, and the air is so clear and the sun feels so close.

ive never been camping around the ocean or even in a colder climate, so tell me about it!

i wanna know where and why you like to camp, and what you like to do there.

The Sierra's are great. There lots of interesting/beautiful places out in the big bad Mojave desert. The Lost Coast is an amazing place. The south coast is also nice and the sound of the ocean surf. Depending on if you like the sun or not, the south coast is great, lots of sand, surf, and sun.

I usually go camping in South Alabama on some land my family owns. It's nice being around the pine trees and all of the typical southern animals you think of. Deer, racoons, turkey, birds. We camp near a stream that goes into a lake and it has a big beaver dam and we go sit by the lake...it's great.

Well, I generally camp in Michigan, since I live here. It may not be the Sierras, but it's pretty nice. The Porcupine Mountains was fantastic with great hiking in virgin forest, and I enjoyed the Au Sable River too, very beautiful. Isle Royale National Park is supposed to be the best (for serious hikers/campers only, it's almost pure wilderness, with no facilities), though I haven't been there (yet).

Also, I camped once in northwest Wisconsin along the St Croix River, and oh man was that beautiful. I would have liked to have explored it more, but I was only 13 or so at the time and was with my dad, uncle, and younger cousins, and we were doing other stuff. Still, what I did explore, I liked very much.

Really, though, as long as you're out of earshot and sight of noisy roads or other human doings, camping anywhere is pretty damn good. One time we had to camp at this shitty campground across the river from Manistee (Michigan town along Lake Michigan) because all the state parks that day were full, and then the battery on the truck died so we didn't have time to find something better. Not only was the campground just a hard lawn with fire rings and a few trees, filled with RV's, and not very private, but after the sun set, you could see the whole city of Manistee and all night we were hearing police and ambulence sirens. That was probably the worst camping ever, if you can even call it that.

If you ever come to upper Michigan, you should check out Porcupine Mountains. It's awesome. They have a campground up there right off Lake Superior. Lot's of hiking and wildlife. Plus the bears come right up to your tent. I had an encounter with one, it wasn't pleasant, but still kind of cool.

I do most of my camping in Virginia. So far I like Crabtree Meadows the most. The road leading to is posted as 4x4 or high clearance vehicle only. You should see the looks I get from the life-size tonka truck guys when I go back there in my Neon. I also like camping at the Sherando lake state park, and on the trails around Ramseys Draft. Saint Marys wilderness is pretty cool, there are lots of old mining sites to explore.

I go backpacking/camping in tons of places, it's my number one hobby. I guess my most frequent places are local, especially the south beach of Lake Willoughby....it's a sacred place and in my opinion one of the most beautiful places in the world, it's also where I was married.

There's a great state forest near me that I just love to be in. Belleplain Staate forest in south jersey. And I also love to go camping in the Poconos. Every once in a while, i sleep on the beach-- but if anyone sees you there, they kick you off. At least around here. But when push comes to shove, of more of a mountain/forest/lakes/rivers kind of person than a beach/ocean type anyway.

Schwagstock is where a good portion of my camping experience comes from but my favorite trip was to Pensacola over spring break. Big Lagoon state park. Seriously, check it out. Yes, there are lots rather than wild camping and you aren't supposed to take wood from the forest yourselves (you pay like six bucks and they give you enough for like four days of perpetual fire), but it is totally worth it. The lagoons are breathtaking, there are paths of white sand through miles of captivating scenery, and a lot of wildlife to be seen. We saw an alligator our first day there. I would love to go back!
