I was named after my dad's favorite pro hockey player, Derek Sanderson.

My middle name, Charles, is after the English prince (my mom was a royalty buff in the late sixties/early seventies).

I named my son (Russell) after the philospher Bertrand Russell.

I was named after the son of a farmer that my father worked for in HS.

Hey Stephen, my name would have been Stephen (or Steven, don't really know) if were a boy. It was the name of the owner of a bar where my dad worked in college.

What do you think of my Hip Forums name?

The root is Aldous (as in Huxley), who popularized the use of mescaline beyond the realm of the North American Indian tradition (the ritualistic eating of peyote cactus). Find and read his book "The Doors of Perception" if you haven't already. It's the book from which The Doors took their name.

Adding "age", creates the word 'do(u)sage' - a fitting term for a psychedelic pioneer.

Also, it can be considered an alternative to "New Age". That is, "Aldous Age".

And of course "sage" is a great hippy word, both in reference to the plant and a wise person.

Let's see... oh, and the Paulie Shore shtick too, of randomly adding "-age" to the end of words.

That's all I can think of right now. Let me know if you find anything else!

Arlandis Hinton is the real name of a rapper called B.G. Knocc Out

He fucked his career before it even got fully started by getting himself sentenced to 10 years for a drive-by shooting. Idiot.

But I always thought he had a cool name :)

Edit: oh wait this is about our real name? not our username? shit. embarassing. well my real name is Matthew. Guess my parents just liked it :)

My parents followed the Jewish tradition of naming kids after deceased relatives...or using the first letter of their name...
They also wanted something Irish, since my dad grew up in Belfast...(we're not Irish, my grandparents had moved there from South Africa...)

    and my middle name:
Ira = some relative named Ida, who I actually havent heard much about. I think I might have preferred having Ira as my first name...

"The Moroccan Raccoon" came from a song my friends and I wrote.
We were at a songwriting workshop like 4 years ago, and were each given a dark and strange black&white surreal picture from a series which was supposed to be made into a book, but something happened to the artist before anyone knew what the meaning was. Each person in the group (maybe 15 people) had to contribute to a story made up based on each of the drawings. It ended up being about a moroccan raccoon and that's what we were told to write a song about...and of course I came up with some incredibly trippy 10 minute long experimental psychedelic jam with surreal lyrics. So I started using the name "The Moroccan Raccoon"

I think I have an interesting story...
I'm named after my aunt Christine, who was a hippie... she hung out with Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix before and would trip out on lsd and acid. I actually have the peace symbol ring that Jimi hendrix supposedly gave to her... or perhaps it was a trip? Whatever the case, I figure in those days rock stars fucked their groupies... so... if he gave her a RING... I'm named after someone who fucked Jimi Hendrix?

My name's Nyika, named after the Nyika plateau and Tangenyika lake in Zambia. Basically my grandparents saw it on a map when they were looking to move to S. Africa and would have called my Dad it had he been a girl! The idea came up again when I was born, and here I am!
