Hey all, I made an account apparently a few years ago but never did much. I've changed (not really) and yeah stuff. I'm interested in learning more about hippie culture, and I wish I could get into it but...I love stuff too much. Clothes and makeup, costumes and wigs. So I doubt I could be a full time committed hippie, but I'm still interested in it. Do you think you could point me to any articles, books...I'm not sure what to look for, anything really - I'm just curious what it means to be "hippie". There are quite a few aspects about it that reaaaaally interest me but again, I'd rather do my homework on it first. If you can point me to any sources or even just give up some definitions yourself, I'd be grateful Thank you!
Be open-minded, experiment with as many facets of life as possible, and try your best to be optimistic with the trials of life you face. Remember, the happiest is the wisest. Preferably don't be the cliche pretentious, know-it-all hippie. Listen more than you talk, and then when you do speak, make your words really count. Also, don't forget to love all the crazy life of this surreal planet. There's also drugs, which I'm quite fond of, but that's entirely up to you, and isn't necessary to be a part of the culture. If you go this route, warm up with cannabis and then maybe proceed to psilocybin mushrooms whenever you feel ready. LSD is truly amazing, but it can have a dark side if you go into its realm far too often. If you want to hear some solid hippie philosophy listen to some lectures by Terence McKenna. You can find a lot of his stuff on YouTube. Now that's a man that explored all he could. Skip out on the popular Timothy Leary because he kind of started a cult, and thus brought a bad name to the movement. I wish you the very best on your journey! Welcome to the family!
If you're a true hippy, you will receive this book in the mail on your 18th birthday, it will be posted from Woodstock, NY
