I love metal, but I rarley wear band shirts or anything that identifies me as a metal chick. This started in high school where I was often scolded by the fashion gestapo, who called my band shirts offensive, ant-Christian, or disruptive (I kid you not). So, I stopped wearing band shirts at school and eventually I wore them less in the general public. I don't why, but I grew to like my new sense of style. As you can see from my pictures, I like to dress casually and even nicely for the most part. When people hear that I like music such as Slayer, Exhorder, Iron Maiden, and Suffocation, they are too stunned for words. I'm wondering if there are other metalheads who do not have that aura to them or who hardly ever wear band shirts.
"that gives away my identity"??? So, you identify yourself by the music you listen to? Nice job. I don't mean to be rude but, that's a sign of low-self esteem.
How would you know people you don't know are metalheads anyway if they don't dress 'metal'. Perhaps there are lots more than we know I'm sure nobody thinks I'm a black metal lover when they first see me, partly because I don't wanna be perceived as just that neither. And Telepath, it's pretty evident she says she doesn't dress as a stereotype for the exact same reason you seem annoyed...
If you don't mean to be rude then don't be rude. It could be but a sign of low self esteem not necessarily. Most folks I know tend to identify with one group or another- in this case the group identity is defined by musical taste. Sometimes the value of your opinion is relate to the means you choose to deliver it... and your word choice seems calculated to put the OP on the defensive by establishing some premise of your superiority.
what is ant christian? it sounds awesome. as for style, i'd rather not become a walking billboard for my favourite bands. i love metal, but the look is plain daft.
I go through periods of being a metalhead, and am always a fan; and I don't have any clothes that fit the image.
I sometimes wear shirts with bandlogo's and stuff, it's not in the first place to express my style but more 'if I wear t-shirts anyway it only makes sense to have something on it that I like'. I also like to view other peeps I see walking with a bandshirt not as much as someone that's metal or 'part of the scene' but as someone who likes that band. Of course there are also the ones that really are into the scene and/or plain obvious metalheads. Not necessarily disturbing either I think.
Actually, it only gets sad/annoying when people are so over enthousiastic they become posers or intolerant against people who are not true
I can be as metalhead-like, or as preppy, or as gangsta-like, or hippie, and still love metal, lol. I DO generally look rocker-like, though, over that I have one o' them Mr. Rogers cardigans on lately since it's still pretty chilly, lol. xD It's a metal day in this headbangerhood, a metal day for a headbanger... Would you be mine? Could you be mine? It's a headbangerly day in this metalhood, a headbangerly day for metal, Would you be mine? Could you be mine? I have always wanted a fellow metalhead, just like you, I've always wanted to play a metal tune, with you. So let's make the most of this heavy metal-ness, Since we're together, we might as well headbang, Would you be mine? Could you be mine? Won't you be my headbanger? Won't you please? Won't you please? Won't you be my headbanger? \m/
Magic Kingdom, where all metalheads dress like the power metal guys in their promo pics(armours and swords and such), lol. Villains = Gwar xDDD
nobody knows i'm a devil worshipping satan fellating blood soaked black souled metalhead because i wear a yellow day-glo joggingsuit and blue nike shoes :mickey:
I wish all metal heads dressed in cognito. Something about people that dress head to toe metal really bothers me...black jeans, black band shirt, spikes, long dyed black hair, combat boots. Anytime I go to a metal show (I don't even like metal. I don't know how I ever end up at metal shows but I do) 75% of people are dressed like this. Its not very original.
Well, they don't wear those clothes ALL THE TIME, or anything. I look every bit as metal when I go to a metal concert, so I can totally relate to those fellow metalheads. I mean, I wouldn't go to the next Dream Theater concert lookin' like I belong to Boyz II Men. Grandmaster Flash kinda look, now THAT is a different story... But then they were old school, and they looked metal, lol.
