Christians believe in heaven and hell.
I think Jews believe in heaven but no hell!

They are simply gone, forever. Like the unimaginably large number of orther organisms that have lived in the last few billion years. The biological evidence is rather clear on this. There's really no "they" to even discuss or speculate about.

 

It depends on if what we perceive is real or not

 

stuck in some kind of place in our solar system.

 

The bible clearly states that the dead are asleep...

It's hard to believe so many souls are crammed into one place. Our perception of it is not real.

I think death is like sleep. You know, when you first fall asleep, before the dreams start. When it is nothing but black. I think our souls stay in a state like that until they are reincarnated into something else. Our soul joins the "cosmic soup" and parts of it go into different things.

 

First of all, there is no such thing as reincarnation. If it were so, then you would not see your loved ones who have died before you when you go to heaven. Also, reincarnation is the teaching that, you must come back in your next life to pay the penalty for the sins you committed in this life. However, Jesus Christ died to pay the penalty for those sins. He took your sins on Himself. He paid the penalty and opened the door to heaven for you. Now, according to the bible, all you have to do to get into heaven is 1. Ask God with a sincere heart to forgive you for your sins. And 2. Thank Jesus for paying the penalty for your sins. Then ask Him to let you live with Him forever in heaven when after you die. Besides, the bible says, "It is appointed for a man to die ONCE and after that the judgement."(Hebrews 9:27)

Many years ago I took a bible study class on heaven, hell and purgatory. It really got me interested in those subjects. Since then I have read countless books about people who have had near death experiences. Many Catholic saints have also seen heaven, hell, and purgatory and have written down what they saw. And I have read many of their testimonies too. I was thinking about putting my findings into a book. However, when I read the book, "The Other Side" by Michael H. Brown - I realized someone had beat me to it. If you want to read just 1 book on the after life, that is the book.

It is hard to give a brief answer to the question, "What happens when you die." But I will try ..... Your soul never dies. After your heart stops, your soul leaves your body. Your soul can see, feel, smell, touch, and taste. All of your senses will be heightened after your leave your body. And you will still have the same personality. Everyone immediately goes to heaven after they die. Everyone stands before God. They are given a life review. In other words, while standing before God and his holy angels, you will see on some type of screen, your life played out before you. From the time you were born, until the moment of your death. You will not only feel the emotions you felt during each scene, but you will feel the emotions other people felt that are in the scene with you. For instance, you will see your birth and you will feel what you felt and what your parents felt when you were born. It is hard for our minds to wrap around it, I know. It will only take a short time to see your life review. You will feel every pain that you ever caused another person. Either ignorantly or willfully.(The only things that will be missing are the things you have confessed to God and asked Him to forgive you of. Then, after you ask God to forgive you, you must ask the person you hurt to forgive you, or try to right the wrong you did in what ever way necessary. If you do this, your sin will not show up in your life review. God will forgive and forget)Then, you will be judged. You and God will decide together whether you should go straight into heaven, or whether you still need to do work on your soul and therefore spend time in purgatory before going to heaven. Or, whether you should spend eternity in hell. It is like you are given truth serum. You will know beyond a shadow of a doubt where you should go. I could go on and on about who goes to heaven, hell, and purgatory and why. As well as what each place is like. However, it would take way too long. However, I will say this. A person can die at any moment. You could get hit by a car tomorrow. You should always be prepared to die because once you die, that's it. You are before God and eternity awaits you. There are no do-overs. The best way to prepare yourself is to ask God - with a very sincere heart - to forgive you for your sins. Tell him that you want a relationship with Him. (As opposed to just praying to Him when you need something). Ask Him to come into your heart and to help you to live a life that is pleasing to Him, and in harmony with others. He will. You see, God gives us "free will." He leaves it up to us to choose to live our lives with His help, or without. If you reject Him in this life, don't be surprised if He rejects you in the next life when you stand before Him. So, if you are a Catholic, go to confession. If you are not Catholic, simply get down on your knees (which is an act of humility) and ask God to forgive you of all of your sins. And do it with a sincere heart. Then, start reading the gospels. Those are the 4 books in the bible that tell about the life of Christ and His teachings. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Read them and reread them. And try to follow Jesus' teachings. The gospels are in the New Testament which is the last 1/3 of the bible. Buy a bible, or just a New Testament, that is not written in old english (which uses words like "thee" and "thou"). Go to a Christian bookstore of any bookstore and you will find one. If you do those 2 things. ~ Regularly asking God to forgive your sins with a sincere heart, And ~ Reading and rereading the 4 gospels, you will not only earn God's favor, but you will feel good about yourself and have wonderful guidelines to follow through life.

Now, what is heaven like? From all I have read (and this is just a teeny tiny portion of all I have learned about it) It is more wonderful than your mind can conceive. There are parts that look like the country, parts that look like the city, parts that look like the forest and the ocean. Only it is much more beautiful and fantastic than anything we can dream of. Even the music is more beautiful and fantastic than anything we can imagine. Everyone there looks like they are in their early 30's. And everyone looks like themselves, but they are more beautiful than they were when on earth. People communicate telepathically. They are blissfully happy. They feel love and peace every single moment. One word each and person uses to describe heaven is "Home." They all say that for the first time in their lives they felt like they were in their true home. If you have a loved one in heaven, he or she is waiting for YOU to come THERE. They wouldn't come back here if you paid them. Our time on earth is a test. It is not fun. And it is not meant for fun. The 2 things we will be judged upon when we stand before God after we die is this. 1. How much did you love God. And 2. How much did you love others? And remember, love is an act. You show love by your actions. Love is not affection. Affection is an emotion. Love = sacrifice.

Last, just as heaven is too awesome for our minds to comprehend, Hell is also too awful for us to comprehend. But that's a story for anther day.
