It somewhat depends on what you mean by that. My idea of true hippies are the folks from my old commune in the Haight. http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?goto=lastpost&t=112058 After not seeing most of these folks for 30/35 years and then finding them here 5 years ago when they discovered (from someone else) that my lady and I need money to get a stable place (so the VA would give me the medical attention I need) and get out of the van we had been living in for five years after getting caught in a national disaster flood and loosing most everything. Without saying anything to me they raised the money we needed to get yhe place we needed. Another place is at the Haight Ashbury Street Fair and.or the Oregon Country Fair. Both are events old hippy families regard as reunions.
My childhood friend's family were true hippies, and as the internet kicked in many diluted and moved around the UK... the hardcore ones who resisted the electronic movement moved to Ireland...
True Hippies - people who believe in freedom, but have ethics, cooperate, share, maybe believe in the idea of living simply so that others may simply live - I know it's a bumper sticker - but it is a good one. Hippies are smart, well-read, artists, bohemians, but who choose not to live in the mainstream society because it violates their beliefs - and often have common musical tastes - me - I have been called a true hippie by people I consider true hippies - I find it more and more difficult to live in Denver, CO - as an artist - because I have to drive everywhere to do anything - thereby contributing to global warming, I am homeless at the moment - given a place to live that I am painting by a kind friend of mine. I am an artist - from NY originally - but art is not really wanted these days unless you are a super duper marketer - which I am not - there are a billion "marketer" artists of mediocre quality using technology to make art these days and the value of art has been cheapened and in addition art is so distanced from real life anymore that regular people can't relate to it at all... maybe I am not a true hippie - maybe I am just a fucking disgruntled American - maybe that is what a true hippie is though - I am just looking for others like me because I am feeling that soon we are going to need to help each other survive. I have a few hippie friends- young hippies- in their 20's - I am 48 - I came here looking for true hippies...
"True hippy"?!?!?!?!?! You mean the dirty, never-bathed, always smoking pot, wearing dreads, and tie-dyes, going barefoot, or even naked, peace-loving anti-war activists from the 60's through now? Never heard of them.
Asks for demographics I say. We shall revive demographics. And that asks to read that we must now become guilty in the U.S. for the hiding of our origins. Bus companies may represent demographics.
Its a good question..Scattered to the winds I guess We are Stardust We are Golden And we got to get ourselves back to the garden
