Where are all the illiterates?

I always hear that there's so many people that can't read or write, but they almost never come online. wtf? So where the hell are they then? Homeys represent!

Actually while on a bus, I was chatting with an older guy. I forget how it came up, but he said he couldn't read. He said it so matter of factly, I think he was serious.

I wanted to give him the little engine that could and a hug or something.

 

I know a lot of people who cant read and write. Its sad.

I can't believe anyone is totally illiterate. I mean they all can read a stop sign, can't they? Or do they just recognize the shape and color?

 

I actually don't remember the last time I read a stop sign. But yes I'm sure people probably need some sort of functional literacy. Although I doubt they could get through a pamphlet or something.
