So now everything is an acronym. McDonald's is McD Burger King is BK Kentucky Fried Chicken is KFC Dairy Queen is DQ Saturday Night Live is SNL What's up with all that? Seems like people are afraid to call something by it's proper name. The original Saturday Night Live logo was nice hand-written script. Dairy Queen has a charm to it that DQ doesn't. Why would companies want to give up their charm and identity? Seems like you'd lose customers too, especially people who aren't as familiar with the English language. I could see a newcomer to the U.S. knowing what 'Dairy Queen' meant but not 'DQ'. .
I totally still call Dairy Queen, Burger King, McDonald's and Saturday Night Live by their full names. KFC, not so much.
mc donalds and burger king is still called mc donalds and burger kingin europe...or shall i saw the E.U.
I suppose it's the age... how often have we written/textmesseged/typed 'lol' instead of 'laugh/laugh out loud', or '<3' instead of 'heart' or whatnot? Everything's gotta be done quicker I suppose.... But I do agree with the quality of somethings depreciating as well over time... these places did seem better at one point...
My impression is that these nicknames are meant to connote intimacy of some sort. Come on over to Micky D's, we're your friends here. McDonalds and Burger King are still on the signs. KFC changed from Kentucky Fried Chicken because they wanted to trick people into thinking their chicken was not full of grease and had to get the word Fried out of the name. I have never understood how McDonald's outstrips Burger King. While both are fast food, I think Burger King burgers are better ... though McDonald's has better fries. Before the days of value meals, it was fairly common where I grew up to get our fries from McDonalds and then go down the street and get the burgers at Burger King.
Well I have no problem saying: "Colonel Sander's finger-lickin' recipe,Kentucky Fried Chicken" as opposed to "KFC".
Kentucky Fried Chicken. Ohhhh so thats what KFC stands for... I never knew that. hehe it was in that song - 'a pizza hut, a pizza hut, kentucky fried chicken at a pizza hut' hehe it was silly. I think i got the word a bit wrong...
the new generation is lazy. instead of television it's tv, there are newer shorter words that have replaced the old ones.
I answer the phone at work every day "Thank you for choosing Dairy Queen, how may I help you?" It seems dumb to call it anything else. And as far as everything else goes, we call McDonald's Mickey Dee's, but everything else is just way easier to call by their full names.
Dairy Queen has a nice ring to it. I don't know why the company would want to call it DQ. Maybe they think 'dairy' is an unhealthy word today. .
i was told KFC changed their name because they don't serve actual chicken anymore. it seems unlikely, but i feel like i have to believe it because the disgusting shit they serve now doesn't taste remotely like chicken or anything else edible that i've come across
I hate abbreviations. Even talking to someone online, I spell out the entire word or phrase. I'm an English buff, so I'm obsessed with proper language and terms. As for fast food places, I try to avoid them. The food is shit and makes me feel nauseous.
KFC actually is KFC now. Kentucky Fried Chicken sold out to I believe the Mars Corp. As part of the deal they could no longer use Kentucky Fried Chicken as their name. I know a guy that drives for them. All he ever says about it is "lots of stuff tastes like chicken".
