First off, when will the new king get his image on coins? Little background. I live right on the border of Windsor, Canada in Detroit. I could literally walk there. It'd be quite a walk. But you know what I mean. Yeah, we find Canadian pennies in our change all the time. There considered interchangeable with American pennies. As I've said, I enjoy collecting coins. As I've said cheaper ones are more accessible after all. And I have been following the evolution of the queen's image on Canadian coins. She's got unique features I think. So when will his face be on coins? I assume the same as in the UK. And Americans, Canadians or US citizens, how do I get Canadian coins, short of waiting for it to show up in my change? I deal with a financial institution. And banks now charge for all transactions (bastards). Thank you for your help.
The 50p (UK) coin has been minted, it will be the only Charles coin in 2022. All other coins will follow, but at the request of the royal family, they will only replace coins as they are worn or damaged, so coins depicting the image of the late queen are likely to still be in circulation throughout his reign.
I recall having- and spending - Penny's and 'tanners' with the old King on the coins ... Yes one is that old
In my childhood, things were more like what is happening this time around. Coins, particularly coppers were floating around from the time of queen Victoria. Those with her hair in a bun were quite rare, we called them 'bun pennies'. As the banks became more automated, counting machines could identify fake coins by image during re-packing, so older styles could be thrown out and replaced. I completely agree with the new decision. Not only will it save cost and be good for the environment, it will also preserve the country's heritage. Something that is very lacking today. As you can imagine, my last comment largely applies to cinema's and theatre's. Beautiful old building are being torn down and the replacements have about the architectural appeal of a supermarket. In the industry, we call them "The Popcorn Shops". It has not helped that the entire Odeon and ABC estate has now been sold to China. Around 400 buildings, each with a land value of around £31million Is their any hope left for the west. Only one person ever spoke out and it cost him his job. We all know who that was, but our heads went straight into the sand bucket. PS, Sorry Zen.
That was proper money. I think that were the saying comes from. Money burning a hole in your pocket, the shear weight of it. It was made to last.
