Just curious what yall's favorite places are in the US, and why. Here's my list: Portland, Oregon: I might be a little biased living here all my life, and there some parts of the city I don't like (but you can't like everything) but this city rocks. I mean...plenty of choices of places to eat, cool places to hang out, and cool people. Oregon, in general, is a cool state because you don't have to drive far to get to snow, you don't have to drive far to get to sun, you don't have to drive far to ski, golf, raft, fish, kayak...it's an outdoor mecca. Red Rocks, NV (and Las Vegas, too): My brother, my dad, and I make frequent trips to Las Vegas (at least a few a year). Now, after a day or so in Vegas, I'm burnt out on the whole city thing and the casinos are driving me nuts. My brother and dad go watch the Ultimate Fighting Championships down there, but I sold my ticket last time and just walked around...it was cool. The reason for these trips are twofold. We also go climb at Red Rocks. I've had many great experiences there. It's such a great place, awesome park, cool rock formations...I love it! Panama Rocks, NY: I'm not sure if that's the name of the city or what, but the place is called Panam Rocks...and it is in New York. Not far from the PA/NY stateline. My dad's family lives in PA, so this summer, he went back for my cousins wedding. I flew into Pittsburgh and met them there. I was coming back from the Dominican Republic. Anyway, to get to the point here: my dad and I went to Panama Rocks. We were going to do it last time we were back there, but something came up. Niagra Falls, NY/Canada: Usually when we go to see my grandma in PA, my dad and I go to Niagra Falls. We didn't go this year though, since we went to Panama Rocks. I love Niagra Falls though. The nightly light show rocks! Tacoma, WA: Havent spent much time there, in fact, only a weekend a few months ago. But I loved the city. It seemed to have a good vibe. Cool architecture. I look forward to spending more time there in the future! OK, that's enoguh from me for now. What's you guys' lists like?
Virgin Gorda: It's such a small island where the people are all so polite! And it's simply beautiful there!! NYC: Soo much fun! There is always something to do! Seatle: I've been there about 6 times, and every time I see the hottest guys!! Yelm, WA: My uncle lives on a farm here, and it's such a beautiful spot. San Diego: It's so sunny and warm and nice! I love it!!
Boulder, CO...lived there for a long time, and I miss the hell out of it the mountains of Virginia...some of the most beautiful there are, I believe Asheville and Boone North Carolina, very hip, mountainous places (I'm a mountain mama through and through!) Helena, Montana, more gorgeous mountains Santa Fe, New Mexico, more of the same...very hip place too
OK, I couldn't post a reply earlier...so I'll try again now. Hope it works! I would love to go to Colorado to ski! Hope I can get there in the next few years. I've heard Virginia is a cool place, same with North Carolina. I've heard some great things about Santa Fe and Montana, too! I'd love to go there. Wouldn't be too hard to get to Montana.
I'm a tree-hugger. I love the Northwoods of Minnesotta! When I meditate, that's my happy place. I wander through the woods Greeting my Mother Earth. Midget. Drop me a PM next time you and yours are here! Not a perv, just wanna meet another from Hip Forums.
Pahkla village - the place where i will live oneday, chill and relaaax.. this is sumthing to my sould men
I like the Colorado Rockies its probably my favorite place. Gunnison beach,NJ clothing optional beaches rule. Moab,Utah i love the natural beauty of the rocks there. I dont care for big cities because once youve lived in one the rest look all the same. I guess im a country boy who grew up in the suburbs!
Maui, Hawaii - been in love with it since I went there 2 years ago and that's why my husband and I bought a house there and are moving in 2 months. Maine - grew up there and it will always hold a special place in my heart. San Diego - other place I did some growing up and if we didn't buy a place in Maui we probably would in San Diego. Humboldt county, Northern Cal. - beautiful, lots of redwood trees, great vibe! New Hampshire - where I was born! Beautiful beaches, beautiful mountains! Live free or die! Need I say more!
I want to go Explore Maine/Newhampshire, etc...that whole area. It seems like a really pretty area. Haven't spent any time in Cali, except for a few days in Yubba City, about 6 years ago probably. Don't remember much about it. Wouldn't mind going back to spend mroe time in Cali. Never been to San Diego. Never been to Hawaii either. You're moving there? Isn't it pretty touristy? I can't stay in places like that very long.
Hawaii is beautiful!! I suggest checking it out at least once. I found that the island of Oahu is the most touristy (that's where Waikiki/Honolulu is) but all the islands are beautiful. I like Maui the best. It's got a nice blend...great beaches, nice country, cute little hippy towns, beautiful mountains and rainsforest. Besides, the tourist thing works for me since I'm a massage therapist and am trying to get a job at a resort. Yeah, definitely go check out Maine and New Hampshire. Except maybe not now, I hear they are getting a bit wet over there!
Rowe, MA : It's the home of the Rowe Unitarian/Universalist Camp & Conference Center... an extremely hip place http://www.rowecenter.org/ San Francisco, CA : I can be as gay as I want to be there. It's got something for everyone. It is a town of extremes. I have developed some of my most powerful friendships there. http://161.58.114.182/index.htm?mistersfhome.html Shepherdstown, WV : A place where animals are rescued. "Almost heaven. West Virginia!" http://www.pigs.org/ Kauai, HI : There is something inexplicably marvellous about undulating in the gentle waves of the Pacific Ocean during the winter months while the Haolis of the Mainland freeze their collective butts off http://www.kauai-blue-lagoon.com/
I know this was written awhile back but I was just rereading everyone's list. Does touristy really bother you that much? You yourself put favorite places include Niagara Falls and Las Vegas. Hawaii is actually more beautiful and natural than either of these places (and sometimes less touristy). And, yes, I've been to all these places. They are fun to visit as is Hawaii, I just happen to feel that living in Hawaii would be like living in paradise.
the west coast of florida is pretty nice, a nice mix of old and young and the beaches will leave lasting impressions on ones soul. Try going to Boca grande beach and then try finding a more beutiful place. Cortez florida is very cool as well, with bradenton beach just across its bridge. Ive spent days on that beach where you could find sand dollars by the bucket full in water that is crystal clear and so damn warm. bradenton beach is not that well known, about 50 miles south of tampa but well worth the visit
I can explain Vegas... I don't spend much time in the city. We get out of the city. Go hike around and climb in Red Rocks, NV. Not many people there, besides other climbers and hikers. I don't really think of Niagra Falls as touristy. Least I don't see many people when we have gone. I'm not knocking Hawaii, but for some reason when I think of it I just think of a gigantic tourist trap for some reason. LOL I know, of course their are places that the tourists never see...that are probably stellar! But I've never been there yet...so
I hear ya about Vegas. The city is fun, but after 2 days I need to get out. I've never been to Red Rocks though, but I would love to check it out. I like checking out the desert every now and then, but I like green too much. Maybe that's why I like Hawaii...so much lush vegetation and tropical plants. I wasn't trying to be mean earlier so sorry if I came across that way. I guess I'm just saying, don't knock it till you try it. If you ever get the chance to go, which I hope you do, you will probably find it touristy but just to check out all it's beauty and hidden gems and to breathe in the aloha spirit is so worth it!! I guess I can't expect everyone to fall so in love as to want to move there, as I did but even for a vacation, oooh, I promise you won't regret it!
