OK, I was sitting here and thinking about all the different things on the news and how people make mountains out of moehills. So, I thought it would be interesting to start a thread about what's wrong with the world and why we shouldn't complain about it... #1) Gas. Yes, gas prices are high. In other countries, they are even higher. A large population of this country has SUV's, trucks, and cars that get in the high teen's per mile per gallon. Us American's like to drive all over town...go to store target, go home. Go to the grocery store, come back home. Go pick up dinner, come back home. You get the picture. Please, stop complaining about the gas!!!! Yes, gas is high, but either accept the fact that you can't drive around in a gas guzzler or quit complaining. BTW, I'm not talking about the people that actually NEED to drive trucks or SUV's...i'm merely pointing out the fact that lots of people will drive a gas guzzler to commute to their job and do not need it. # 2) Abortion. When I go to the hospital to get allergy shots, my gf and I sometimes (usually) see people standing outside with pro-life signs. Don't these people have anything better to do with their lives? If they really want to help, why not do community service for the time they're standing out there just staring at the ground? # 3) The different communities and neighborhoods. I grew up in the city, but I work out in the suburbs. I lived in the suburbs of chicago for a year, and absolutely hated it. There's always this huge hoopla about city vs. suburbs; I hate the suburbs and the suburban people can't understand why. Well, while watching Soprano's tonight, I think I might have figured it out. Tony said that "you drive across America and every town looks the same" because Jamba Juice wanted to buy some property. In the suburbs, that's really what it is. You want coffee, you go to starbucks. You need your oil changed, you go to jiffy lube. You need pastries you go to the grocery store. In the city, life is a little different. You go to the local coffee shop, you get your oil changed at the local mechanic, and you get your donuts from the bakery down the street. And you know what I love? At all of those places, you usually speak with the owner when you order. At Starbucks, jiffy lube, and the grocery store, it is rare that you ever talk with anybody of importance...and when you do, they could care less about your satisfaction. Ahh, ok...now that's out of the way...i was just wondering what everybody else's thoughts are. OH, one more.... #4) FOOD! I use to shop at grocery stores to get all of my food. Just recently, we switched to a co-op. At this co-op, they have mostly organic and natural foods. It's not a HUGE selection, like you would see at the store, but everything is natural and good for you. Everytime we go, we always see the same people there and everybody there is SO nice. Why is it that we have so many different choices and selections when we go to the store? Do we REALLY need all of it? I remember, when I was a kid, you had orange juice, milk, pepsi/coke, ice cream, etc... I don't remember having a "no pulp, extra pulp, some pulp, no calcium, calcium", "2%, low-fat, whole), "zero calorie, c4 coke, no caffine pepsi", and all the different flavors of ice cream. Yes, it's nice to have selection and different choices, but why complicate our lives with everything?
I have to say I agree with a lot of the stuff you say, especially the part about gas. Americans complain way too much whereas Europeans pay up to 3 dollars more what Americans pay and I've never heard any complaints. There are worse things that are going on.
What's wrong with the world?" I don't have much time so I'll just mention one. The environment - Global warming - ozone depleation that is killing the plankton in the oceans (the base of the food chain) - corporate greed that is destroying our forest landS and our oxygen supply (in the Amazon) Morrons who are running our country and driving up a debt that we can't pay and going to war with a country that didn't attack us. . . . but I said only one thing so I'll go.
#1) my opinion:complaining about gasprices is stupid. because gas is polluting our world, we should seek for good alternatives and realise we are close to it. #2) that´s a good point. too bad those people have a completely different view on life while they just want to do what is right to them. #3) people should think about this: is the organised life where-in we only have to hunt the money and keep a family really worth-it #4)agreed!!
Thanks for the responses! I agree about the environment as well. I was reading an article in newsweek or time about how either the icebergs or some large continent in the north is slowly melting...and even though, at the time, it seems like a very small amount, in a few years, florida will be gone because it is below sea level. I wish I could remember more because it was a great article. But I mean, come on...isn't that more important than some of the issues now a days! And about the abortion issue... After thinking about it overnight, I really have no right to complain. Just like they are standing outside of the hospital with signs, I'm on here, wasting time, blabbing about what's wrong with this world. OK, last one...i was just thinking about this. Relating to the gas issue. My girlfriend and I were watching this movie/tv show called "Supermarket Secrets". It was filmed in UK (England?) and was about GM foods. She made an interesting observation about how all their cars were small, economy cars. That's all they could afford!!!! We didn't see any large SUV's or gas guzzlers in the parking lots of the markets at all. Yes, gas is more money over there, but just look at their vehicles.
I especially liked your points about the grocery stores and the co-op, and the suburbs. I love the small shops in cities, like the bakery and the local mechanic and the small scale cofee shop
I was watching TV and another thing hit me. Viagra. People spend WAY too much time at their job...this causes stress. Stress causes males not to..uhh...'perform'. So then they take viagra so they can and problem solved. My question... It goes from work -> stress -> viagra So what happens as a result of viagra???
If you look at the world since world war one you'll notice that as the workd becomes more global the bigger becomes its problems. The majority of the problems can be wrapped up into two words... greed, ego. Eliminate these and you'll get rid of the majority of the world's problems. End the war through peace.
No it won't. Greed is a natural human characteristic (with a label), it's there for a purpose as is your ego. It's the compulsion of them that needs to go away.
You shoul try living in Britain where the health care is paid for out of taxes and we dont care that the fuel prices are high because we been ripped off so long we forgot what an honest profit is. The best thing about Britain is health care - Glad I dont live in the USA sounds like you're all being mugged over there right now - at least we are used to being mugged on a daily basis
Try EVERYTHING! 1. Young people are shallow 2. Love doeasn't exist 3. Peace doesn't exist, and the difference between now and Viet Nam is that the young people couldn't care less 4. Fellowship doesn't exist 5. Individuality is "out of style" 6. The music can't even qualify as music. 7. The other high schoolers don't care. I'm the one with problems. 8. John Lennon is dead 9. So is Freddie Mercury 10. And John Bonham 11. And Jerry Garcia 12. and Jim Morrison 13. and Jimi Hendrix 14. Woodstock is over There's some things wrong.
Ego is the biggest... it all stems from that. OP, I like your comments about too much variety in supermarkets
The current 'body-politic' of the western hemisphere is still under the macho-capitalism instigated by President Reagan/Prime MinisterThatcher/President Mitterand in the 1980s. We are still living in the era of 'monetarist' 'lassei-faire',unfettered corporate global profiteering. In the 1950-60-70s many 'liberal' ideals were implimented. In Britain the NHS ,in America Medicare & Medicaid.Ironically 'liberal' society wasn't dismantled by Nixon, the supreme right-wing ogre;or Carter. In Britain it wasn't by Heath ,Wilson or Callaghan. There was still a consensus that 'people mattered more than money'. Walk down any London street today, & you'll see young street beggars.I am not exaggerating when I say that they did not exist until Margaret Thatcher came along. The mass unemployment & factories closing in America in the 1980s occured because 'profit' was deemed more important than 'jobs'. I am sorry to sound so long-winded but I am trying to say that MONEY is controlling our lives totally & we are the poorer for it. The ideals of the 1950s & 1960s was mass consumer power in equal share not making the rich richer. People must understand Love of the common people is more greater a utopia than letting money run your life.We are creating today:Isolated 'geek' families surrounded by expensive technology, indocrinating their children in their future careers.Fearing to step out onto the street because the 'less fortunated' want to get at them. Global Warming is the end product of capitalism (& communism too).We need to change the priorities of world governments & ourselves p.d.q.
