I've become a mad photographer just lately so I took these the other day when it was snowing..Ok - it looks pretty miserable in the street photo - but when the sun comes out up the mountains - like in the other photo - it's great.Still I'm in the uk - guess I'm used to it but is the winter really that bad? - Its a good time for staying at home and making soup, and reading a good book I think..
Come spend a bad Pennsylvanian winter where it can snow 3' at a shot, the temperature never get above freezing for a month, the roads are nearly impassable, then tell me that winter isn't so bad. Oh, yeah-- the electric is out for days at a time, you have to run a generator 24-7, and the woodstove must be fed 24-7. And, this is southern PA-- in the north it may never get above freezing for months at a time. FUCK WINTER!
24-7 except you gotta clean the damn thing out once in awhile.Don't know if it got above 70 today or not
it did snow today, had to put my heavy shirt on,probably won't even open the windows until about noon.
ahh tis a wonderful spring day, sunny an 78 degrees,,.. hard to belive in 1993 it was a week just like this,, then friday the 12,,bam.. got down to 8 degrees the monday after the blizzard,, had 28 inches in the front yard,, most snow i ever seen south of the mason dixon from one storm.. although i here parts of northcarolina had over 4 feet.. so although its 78,, i still wont an dont plant the garden till end of april.. seen a dusting as late as easter here,, but thats late fer here.. i love winter,, wish we had a lil more here.. luv n lite..
i love going into the nursery to see all the new tomato and pepper varities only to go a week later to see a bunch of frostbit remains. As nice as it's been and as tempted as i am i know april fools the day to plant... well, maybe mid march...
dilligaf says she has babys in the greenhouse,,, sage an lemon basil,, an a baby mater plant or two.. i like it when they git up good an start stinkin.. ahh tis the smell of a healthy greenhouse..
Today the temperature hit the mid 70s. I was happier than I had been in a LONG time. Winter depresses me.
I love winter and sadly, we had a pretty crappy winter here ... A green winter makes me feel depressed
SPRING HAS COME! It was 65 yesterday, 75 today, and when I came home from work at 5;30, the wood frogs were quacking! I have a one acre swamp next to my house, and every spring, usually the first week in March with temperatures in the high 60's, the frogs start their mating--quacking like ducks. This is my reward after a long and cold winter. God must still love me, or, at least, have hopes for my sorry redneck-sinner soul.
Nahh - theres alot of talk in world news about ice everywhere at the moment - like if you defrost a chicken then - the surface and bottom water system in the artic system will be poised to move northward resulting in the annihalation of the walrus population.I hope not. This winter was like I remember it was when I was young - cold, lots of ice, snow. And - no blame on any global shit.I'm not denying there could be a problem - more just, that - well - it's winter.I could be sad cos everyone in this town, being a tourist town has gone back home.eg. the greek waitresses have gone back to greece. The pole-ish waitresses are either working on marrying an english native cos the money is better here....or given up and gone back to drinking vodka and eating fish, and the eglish people have just gone back to being either drunk or hermits persue-ing indoor crafts.Indoor crafts - the winner!!!! Now after having read all my words on this post,it's time to get the fire roaring, and make a cup of tea....tell me I'm wrong....
I'm 90% pure Irish on both sides, so don't expect love-letters from me to the limeys, but I think all of us can say-- GOODBYE WINTER! Everytime the frogs quack, I pretend they're saying, "FUCK-A-SNOWFLAKE, FUCK-A-SNOWFLAKE!" BTW-- This croaking will go on for at least a month. After the wood frogs are done mating, the chorus toads and the high pitched spring peepers (tree frogs) move in. I hope I die in my boots, hearing them as background music. Of course, I'll probably never die--only the good die young; and, I'm already too old to die young. At least, so I feel tonight! (I was fantasizing about Shameless Heifer--dirty thoughts, I've noticed, makes one young again!) Ah! To be 22 again, (with Joanne next to me) driving a 1954 Dodge, smoking Pall Malls and drinking Sunshine Beer in 1969 Pennsylvania before the yuppies ruined it! She's dead, and so is my youth and 1969 Pennsylvania.
I took this one this morning around 8am my time. We actually have a snow advisory for today in Sin City! P.S. That is the Stratosphere hotel in the background.
i find winter forces you to hole up & simplify ,more time for thinking about what your doing ..where your at..especially if your living in a rual enviroment..choppin wood, haulin water etc.
Well I like Winter. But then I love being snowed in with my sweetheart. When we built this place we super insulated...double walls with double batts in there. Our ceilings are at least r38 with some being r45. We applied styrofoam instead of drywall and painted the styrofoam. So even though we heat with wood, as long as we bank the stove before bed...it is never below 48 in the morning when when Larry gets up (yes, he gets up first and heats up the place) the 48 was when it was -8 outside. Most morns are 51-55. We lay in alot of supplies so we don't have to go to town for 2 weeks if we don't want. Our road is last to get plowed as it is a dirt gravel road with the back part of it closed in icy weather where it goes up a steep hill in the forrest. I feel in the winter I can kick back and move at a slower pace. The garden and yard are asleep under a blanket. Everything slows down and yes, paddler...nothing beats a bowl of cream of brocolli soup, some homemade bread and apple wine on a cold winters night. Great time to catch up on reading, spending quiet time with the one you love and planning for the spring. teepi
Jesus, Teepi!-- I heat a two-story, two-foot thick stone home (built about 1850) with one big Kodiack stove downstairs. Even when it got below zero outside, I've NEVER had the temperature upstairs get below 55. Usually, it's around 60. Downstairs, it's 70-80-- I walk around semi-nude. I couldn't live as you do: TOO COLD! SHIVER MY CATS!
