    What's out there?

I don't know. No-one knows. But something is out there, even if it is just inert matter hurling about in space. To me, it's odd that we live on a globe in a universe which is beyond human grasp and comprehension.

Have you ever pondered those ideas? If so, how do you rationalize our human limitations of perception?

oops, I should have posted this to philosophy and religion. :(

What's to rationalize? Our perceptions are limited. That is a fact.

Is there an expectation that it should be otherwise? If so, how do you rationalize that expectation?

There's more nothing out there than there is something out there... Weird concept, isn't it?

I reckon there is a whole lot out there - if we can live on this planet, who is to say other races do not on planets not even discovered by us?

We know what's in this one patch of space. There are 500 Thousand Million Galaxies in the Milky Way.

What is the likelyhood that communication would be even possible considering our limited ability to communicate with terrestrial life?

I don't think there will be much communication; I think they might just show up here one day...

Can we asume senses to percieve non-terrestrial beings?

I'm not sure what you are asking. Are you talking about communicating telepathically with off- worlders?

No. I was referring to our five senses. Our ability to perceive is limited by our five sensory inputs.

How can we be sure an extraterrestrial would even be detectable given we have only five finite senses?

Ah, good point. I think we have a sixth sense, at least, but it isn't developed well.

That's assuming a lot. The odds that extraterrestrials capable of intergalactic travel are undetectable to the human eye without the assistance of technology is unlikely.

The visible light spectrum is only a tiny sliver of the total spectrum:

We know only what we are allowed to know. Dogs can't calculate the circumference of the earth, monkeys can't write poetry and man can't know what they are not capable of knowing. For everything we do know there are ten things that arise that we don't know. Therefore, we always become ten times more ignorant the more we know.

But are they? The mind is capable of perceiving objects beyond the physical limits of the container known as the brain. While it is true that our five senses are limited, the mind seems to extend perception beyond the limits of the five finite human senses.
