Just thinking about the lifestyle I lead and how it might be considered in synch with the hippie life: Recycling (clothing, furniture) Buying from thrift stores Composting Home gardening Using the car as infrequently as possible Buying products that are earth friendly Why not add to the list and raise the consciousness of the subscribers here
i do everything you mentioned i think we could make a world of difference if we all utilized these very simple but very rewarding things... also try not to consume a lot, and be a concious consumer and know what you buy does to the planet or where it comes from or how it was grown, buy lots og organics and local.... also never consume meat or any animal product which is a very very hip decision if you look into it i think..unfortunatley so many 'open minded hippies' wont have anything to do with it or dont even like to hear this little kid out on something they couldnt possibly not know themselves, its really sad to see them all back away and shiver when i mention the word health, as if the body and mind have no connection whatsoever, and their immortal and immune to death because their a hippie or something.....i thought thats what we were up against though, was bullshit traditions and a conventional and mindless consuming society and destruction of the earth, ah well....
All of the above...plus being as positive as I can be, and peaceful as I can be, and as loving as I can be, to myself, and others.
I'm as Physically active in the Environment as I can be. When I made minimum wage, I once out of my love for trees, I used my $20 an hour Training as a Plumber to repair the Irrigation system that fed these two trees. I did this secretly. I wanted to save those two Pine Trees in Las Vegas. The land of Palm trees and Cactus. These two were lost and needed a friend!
Buy in bulk. Or at least pay attention to how much waste product/packaging per consumable goods when you buy. I am amazed at the increasing frequency of new products that are one use and disposable to make our lifes easier, more likely to make us lazier!. Also things like individually wrapped snacks and one serving potato chip packages in fancy disposable plastic containers, even individual drink containers. It is amazing how wastfull this kind of thing is!!! Recycling is one thing (a good thing) but even recycling takes energy and resourses and causes pollutants. It is also very important to be conscious of what we are buying and how it is packaged... Sorry, I had to ramble since this is something I feel strongly about and it is getting harder and harder buy goods that aren't packaged this way.

One of my favorite rules is: Take only pictures, and leave ONLY footprints. That means, Put your trash back in your pak. make sure your fires are OUT before you leave.

nice to see this thread revived. It brought me back to the forum again. I seem to have raised some enviromentally aware kids. My daughter and her husband have switched to cloth toilet paper, which they wash with their baby diapers.

That's beautiful, Matt! It saddens me that many others would not had cared about the two pine trees or even seen the beauty in them. Even more saddening that alot of people would had only done something if they had been part of a committee---getting their name in the paper or a pat on the back....you know what I mean. I like the post that someone pointed out how being peaceful and loving yourself is the best way to bring it about. That is absolutely true. I have found that not everyone practices Love, Peace, and acceptance to all. Dishearteningly, quite a few have been found in this forum. Apologies for straying... I think that no matter how small or seemingly insignificant a deed may be...sometimes it all starts with one person. There will always be leaders and followers, we may as well lead.
