Ahh, but why should we feel guilty?

    It's a celebration!

Catholic guilt only exists because of poor Catechisis

I have Catholic guilt and I wasn't raised a Catholic, but ever since I was a kid I've felt guilty for SOMETHING and that everything that went wrong was my fault. Is it a state of mind or something you're born with. My parents had an Indian guru and I was brought up around that. I learned to meditate deeply and read up on Buddhism and attended groups. Then I explored Christianity and Sufism. I know I've had some intimations of the divine/absolute but I couldn't give anyone hard and fast answers. I just feel that there's something more than this gross material physical existence. I just want to do more good in the World than bad, like on a scale, to have put more in than I take out, when I go.

Yes. I guess it's kind of a light-hearted take on that.

I also had an experience with Catholicism in the South of France some years ago that I couldn't logically explain and can't go into here. I've tried to rationalize it intellectually but it remains one of those mysteries in my life.

I've never been to a black funeral but I think there's more praising of God at them than there is grieving.

I didn't think to add that to what I said. Silly me. I assumed everyone had made the observations I'd made.

Thank you for the warm wishes all. Everything is taken care of, there is nothing left to do, and out of town guests start arriving as early as tomorrow. It's pretty much here now. I've already mentally "checked out" of work, so I'll probably post some today and tomorrow, but then, it's going to cascade too fast to keep up with. Picking up people from the airport, bachelorette party, rehearsal and dinner, the big show, and--BAM--and then next thing you know we'll be splitting town for awhile. And we made an unplugged/alone time agreement for the honeymoon. Then I'll be off to visit my grandmother. I may even move back home for awhile, or see if I can bring her out here. Haven't thought that far ahead yet. Anyway, I probably won't be on much between tomorrow and October, but I wanted to say I'll miss you guys and that I will be back :)

We spent a small fortune already so we're going to do the real honeymoon next year or maybe--maybe--the year after. I think it would be awesome to do it for our first anniversary, but we will see how that all happens. The goal is Hawaii. I can finally surf the same beaches as my hero Kelia Moniz. Should be epic!

For now, we're taking a drive up the coast. We're going to hit up Monterey and Santa Cruz maybe...perhaps check out the Hearst Castle. We don't have a lot planned. It's supposed to be a kind of unplanned adventure thing--fly by the seat of your pants...whatever that means. Anyway, that makes me nervous, but it's not all about me anymore, now is it? I have an old friend up in Portland who can't make it to the wedding because she just had a baby and so we're going to see them, and then, since we're only two hours from my mom at that point, pop in and see her, and then haul ass home.

Bur the trip up is going to involve a lot of meandering and moving slow and playing tourist and stopping off at quirky antique shops, museums, cafes, etc and just see where the road takes us :)

Ah, yes I see what you mean, and kind of lived it. Folks do tend to rejoice, whether sad about the loss, or praising how great the person was when they were alive, they tend to be boisterous and let it all go. Lots of emotion!
