if you have $25 and want to go to the grocery store and get enough food to feed two people for five days... being that you have in the house... potatoes, rice, eggs, chicken broth, chicken and a roast???
Milk, carrots, bread, peanut butter.......I dunno about American prices though, so I am guestimating. I would cut up the roast and make stew with cheap veggies to stretch it.
hmmm that's a good idea with the roast cause it's pretty big and i already have potatoes so yeah... thanks
Homemade soup, stew, etc is the way to go. You can make a huge pot and freeze them. I usually make veggie soup maybe twice a month and freeze them in GLAD plastic bags. They're great for lunch. It all costs under 20 dollars. I use: Green pepper (2) Onions (2) Green onions (as many as you want) Fresh parsley Carrots (2-3) 2 canned diced tomatoes 3 canned stewed tomates One can of dry veggie broth First boil 2/3 pot full of water along with all the vegetables and parsley. Add the tomatoes and the full can of dry broth. It'll be ready!! You can add or take out whatever you want. You will need a reallly big pot because it would make about 6-8 plastic large GLAD bags full of soup.
i spent $21 and got... a small thing of coffee, bread, a huge box of cheap cereal, small can of baked beans, spaghetti sauce, spaghetti, canned tomatoes, a huge can of ravioli, 5 cheap canned soups, 2 cans of spaghetti-os, hamburger, sausage, two chef boy r d pizzas, celery, carrots, onions, and frozen veggies and paper towels pretty damn good, huh?
tonight im making spaghetti with sauce and onions and sausage (half of the sausage got frozen and it cost less then two dollars.) and i went to weis... just didnt buy brand names.
I was living on 8$ for a week now.... used most of it to buy rice and beans... and what was left to buy some water... Gotta love backpacking.
