What would the world be like if 2010s America was more intelligent and aspirational?

10 years ago I was far more excited about humanity's future. I thought that in the 2010s humanity would take serious steps into putting itself on the road to achieving a "Star Trek" like future.

Then ISIS happens. Then 2016. Then the Trump presidency. Then Charlottesville. Then COVID.

Now the Ukraine war, inflation, and the war between Israel vs Hamas.

What if we lived in a world where 2010s America was much more intelligent and aspirational?

In this alternate world more American college students during the 2010s were excited to become scientists and engineers?

They were more passionate about stopping "Global Warming" and the space program rather than Kardashian style materialism.

They were more passionate about technology like 3D printed homes and "Nuclear Fusion".

The government was more effective in helping disadvantaged communities.

In this alternate world instead of marching for abhorrent ideologies.

American society was too busy being excited to build an amazing future.

In this alternate world those same people would be more open to GMOs and nuclear power.

The American government had effective programs that targeted troubled young men before they could destroy themselves and the lives of others.

Our 2010s had quality dystopian fiction on TV like "The Expanse", "The Handmaid's Tale". and "Man in the High Castle".

In the more optimistic alternate 2010s timeline there would be fiction that were just as good but set in far more optimistic settings.

I agree the 2010s were a turning point in so many ways. It was our last and best hope to save ourselves. As of last Friday, the Earth finally hit 2° Celcius above the baseline, meaning the climate, according to science, had gone beyond our ability to cool down. The planet will continue to heat up now, and it's unstoppable.

The only reason supporting GMOs is the overpopulation of the earth. Instead of GMOs there are alternative food production options that don't require enormous amounts of chemicals, resources, land and water. Of course we need to get used to eating green goo, but that's the price we pay for fucking up our planet.
