What were you doing when you heard the 9-11 news?

  1. My story is simple. I was at the Austin airport dropping someone off. I walked in with them. They started shutting everything down. People had strange looks of fear on their faces. I heard the news and found my friend. We were able to leave just before it was locked down. They were putting up concrete barricades behind me as we drove out of airport. Later I heard people were stuck in airport for over 24 hours before they would let them leave. We were fortunate that we got out just in time. I know everyone in USA remembers exactly what they were doing. Our country came together then. Now we are cracking apart. What’s your 9-11 story?

Although I am a UK member, it hit our news all day. All channels were broadcasting.
I sat and watched as it all happened. It was the most shocking thing I have watched as it happened.

Sitting watching the lunch time news getting ready to go into work. I remember it well. Blue shirt. Trousers. Putting on my watch when I saw the images. Was 40 minutes late for work.

I found it in the newspapers. No one even mentioned it at home. It was weird. I read it in the Sun and like most of the news the Sun created a whole new world for me. Suddenly everyone at home was speaking of it.

I was working at the Buick dealership. When the first tower fell, I was roadtesting a vehicle that I had just repaired. I was listening to the news on the radio. I remember a cat ran out in front of me about a block from the shop and I ran it over.

  7. I remember time stood still. I wasn’t old enough to remember Kennedy’s assasination. This was my generation’s defining moment. Like Pearl Harbor.

Hollywood commemorated 9/11 Friday, on the 19th anniversary of the attacks.

Amid a year filled with national crises including the coronavirus pandemic, heightened racial tensions and now wildfires raging across the US, several stars took a moment to remember the thousands of lives lost on September 11 2001.

Actor Chris Pratt took to social media to mark the day, writing, 'May we honor the fallen with our continued defense of liberty, one nation, under God, indivisible. May we continually pursue a more perfect union.

I was working for my employer here in Wisconsin.

My wife Misty called me at work and begged me to come home so she would feel safe in my arms.

My employer let me go and when I got home, I didn't even get to walk to the front door.

Misty in tears, came running out to my vehicle and bear hugged me with relief.

I was at work. Had just gone into the break room for a cup of coffee. There were probably 6 or 7 people in there staring transfixed at the TV. The first plane had struck the tower minutes earlier. Then as I watched, the second plane struck. It was an unbelievable scene.

In Amsterdam, It was just after 3 PM, I walked into the flat after shopping at the Albert Hein and CNN was playing live, with a plane going into a tower.

Needless to say that day was spent glued to the TV and on the phone to the states with family in the DC area.

    A day to remember unfortunately.

With flight 93 being so close...just minutes by air at those speeds...I remember the hysteria I witnessed locally. People getting gas in their cars...franticly on the phone making escape plans. The way they initially described it, it sounded like the crash site was much closer to me than it was. I didn't find out exactly where it was until it was almost time for me to go home from work that evening.

Walking into the office building I worked in. The elevators have those screens with a continual news feed. Read the ticker that said a plane had slammed into one of the two World Trade Center Towers. My immediate thought was wow somebody really screwed up - like when a B25 crashed into the Empire State Building in 1945. Soon found out it wasn't accidental.

I grew up across the Hudson River from Manhattan. I remember when the towers were built and was even on the rooftop observation deck a few times. Now when I see the NYC skyline it makes me very sad.
