Funny you should say that considering you don't know what advice I gave as it was in private messages. And I don't think it was too complex, just what people need to know. Sound and logical method instead of random tidbits for someone who really cares about getting it right. That whole health thing is important.
Maybe wait until I post a link before criticizing my sources. A study provided by the European commission: http://ec.europa.eu/food/fs/sc/scv/out21_en.pdf "The potential adverse effects on human health from residues in bovine meat and meat products include endocrine, developmental and neurobiological, immunological as well as carcinogenic, genotoxic and immunotoxicological effects as described in the report and addressed in the executive summary." Many nations ban the use of hormones in their meat. Europe bans its use. Europe won't even import US beef because of the hormones used. Hormones in meat are obviously a cause for concern. No offense, but your being a hypocrite. Several of your posts are condensending to others.
Well its not too hard to figure out whats bad for you and not. Stay away from empty calories eat plenty of fruits and vegtables stuff like that when you eat bread eat wheat.
Firstly, that study is hideously outdated. Like I said, hormones can be a problem in certain amounts, but there's no reason to even mention their effects in the amounts that would be consumed in a healthy diet. There has been much regulation since then and the amount of hormones in today's food supply is safe when consumed in normal amounts, and even the amount of meat a healthy person would be eating way back when that came out isn't anything to warrant hysterics. A healthy person eats anywhere from 0-4 servings of beef a week, but not because it has hormones, because beef is high in saturated fat, inflammatory, acid-forming and difficult to digest. There is no good evidence to suggest that the threadstarter should be even the slightest bit concerned about hormones, and so it's useless to mention it. And I'm condescending based on other people's ignorance. Not on pure assumption and pretense. There's a difference.
The European Union maintains its ban of hormone use in cattle. I for one remain sketical of the safety of hormones with such a large political entity objecting its use. Also, I'm afraid I have little faith in the organizations that regulate the use of hormones in beef production and what they consider to be a "safe level", as these are the same organizations that allow hundreds of proven toxins to be added or already present in the food that we eat. As I mentioned before, these organizations do not have our health as their first priority.
You can be skeptical all you want, but telling someone that they should fret about a few servings of beef a week is silly. Especially as the only contribution to a thread that's supposed to actually be helping someone. It's an insignificant issue that's commonly exploited by people who are generally against the consumption of all meat.
Hormones is just one of the health concerns associated with eating factory farm meat. Theres also the use of antibiotics, unnatural feed, inhumane living conditions, and improper slaughtering techniques. It all affects the quality of the meat, which in turn affects your health. In my opinion these are things to consider when eating meat. /Sigh, that was not my only contribution. Perhaps you should go back and read the entire thread. My concerns over eating meat was not the only topic I spoke of, just the one that unfortunately received the most attention. The OP asked for opinions, I gave mine. Consider it helpful. Oh, and for the record, I'm not against eating all meat.
Our society in america is just downright retarded. I wonder why it doesn't occur to people that antibiotics etc ruins their quality. I guess they just don't care. Same thing with the pesticides. I hope all these people who support using this kind of thing has a horribly painful death. Also something to watch out for in meat are nitrites.
Yes I suppose as a Canadian I've a bit spoiled. Health Canada does a pretty good job, not just on regulation but on overall nutritional education. But all of that has an intangible effect on the health impact on people. Why not focus on proven nutrition instead? That way you would be being helpful. Also "inhumane living conditions, and improper slaughtering techniques"? Are you serious? Is that actually relevant?
All right all right. We clearly disagree on what is actually important information for someone who is concerned about eating more healthily. I suppose you are entitled to your opinion. Critical minds will review facts and evidence and come to their own conclusions.
Cattle don't get any exercise, they're stationary for most of their life in confined stalls. They eat grains, corn, and other things including chicken feathers, blood, pork, fish, and soybeans. They evolved eating grass, so this is about as unnatural as keeping lions alive on chocolate chip cookies. They live in over crowded areas allowing bacteria and sickness to be rampant, so they're administered huge amounts of antibiotics (some of which gets passed to us when we eat them). When its time for them to die most of them are too sick and weak to beable to make it to the slaughter floor without help. Then the procedure of slaughtering them makes their bodies surge with adrenaline. All of this makes the cow unhealthy, and its meat unhealthy. The meat won't necessarily kill you, but it certainly doesn't help. Ideally the best way to get meat is from a cow that is able to roam free, is grass fed, free of antibiotics, free of hormone injections, and killed appropriately.
Best of luck. Make sure you're getting enough protein and vitamin b12. Nuts, seeds and legumes are a good choice for protein. Salmon and chicken in moderation are still your friend. Hrm, interesting and frightening if true. Beef is inherently a poor nutritional choice no matter how they raise it, but all of that is probably a better way to scare people out of eating it.
meat. raw. the true human diet. You see, you are what you eat.. so eat what you are. You are not a plant. Plants are medicine. What most people eat today is what I would refer to as 'starvation food'. Its stuff that you 'can' eat, but it doesnt mean that it is optimal for your body.
raw meat? nahhh What the true human diet is would be mostly cracking open bones to get at the marrow. We were scavengers until we got tools, by then we quickly knew what cooking was, you can cook food by leaving it on a hot rock...cooked meat is too simple not to use, fire is a human invention, things burning is natural.
You have obviously never had to gather your own meat, build your own fire and then cook it... or a hot rock..? haha, have you ever tried to 'cook' meat on a hot rock? Hope you're not busy for a few hours... haha You see when you stop cooking your meat, you no longer WANT to cook your meat. It ruins everything about it. You're not going to go through the extra steps of cooking unless you REALLY want that cooked dry piece of meat (which you wouldn't)
I personally try to eat mostly raw (vegan). Whole, organic produce for the most part...some soaked nuts, etc. I don't really think it's that difficult to figure out how to eat healthy... read labels, use your head...
I believe it *IS* hard for people to eat healthy, because what you're told is healthy is actually counterproductive for your health.
