Ok well this is my first post and forgive me if i accidentally break a rule or make a repost. So i want to start growing some shrooms with my friend in our room, I was thinking of getting the mycodome 3.0. Is this a good device? I need a small device that is quiet and fairly self sufficient. And also does anyone have any ideas of what strain I should get? I was thinking of getting penis envy or B+.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

Don't order from Mushbox or Spores101. They were recently busted. Check out mycotopia.com and my grow thread here for more info on growing mushrooms. You have a lot of reading to do.

Well i did quite a bit of reading, i know the general procedure on growing, thanks for telling me about the sites that got busted. And can anyone tell me if the mycodome is a good investment and is it quiet.

Oh and is buying from these sites illegal then?

Dont waste your money on an overpriced mail-order fruiting chamber, focus on the order of operation. The first thing you should ever think of blowing money on in a serious attempt at a shroom grow op is a nice big pressure cooker. I mean BIG. The next thing that requires "serious money" is a laminar flow hood.

My first shroom was the Golden Teachers.

As for a myco-dome, fuck that shit. you will get better results from a 5 gallon bucket lined with damp perlite.

See the problem I have is I dont have access to a stove or anything. I have to do this very low key no one can now about this so I need a machine that can do it for me.

A Mycodome isn't gonna help you sterilize jars. You need to wait till you can do it relatively openly in your house.

Raw materials. Try a PF Tek.

A PC and flowhood are both really, really nice, but neither are necessary. You can sterilize whatever in a big pot using fractional sterilization. It's a bitch, but it's what I've been doing for a while. I do have a fund put up for a PC, though.

Instead of a flowhood, you can always make a glovebox. They're not as good as a flowhood, but if they're carefully built, they can give damn good results. Plenty of people do g2g and agar work in a GB with 5% or less contam rates.

It costs a lot, but you can get pre-sterilized jars on line if you absolutely can't pressure cook (or whatever else).
As for a dome or something, just use a plastic bin with a bunch of holes in it and perlite. There's plenty of info here and mycotopia. The domes are really just fancy bins, so you'd be better off saving the money. (Like everyone else is saying.)

Oh yeah, I forgot to add earlier - don't grow in your parents' house without their permission. I know thats what you're planning.

no. just to clarify Spores101 was busted for growing marijuana. but they don't have the best reputation as a vendor.

I wouldn't recommend Penis envy for a first grow, because it takes longer than other stains in all portions of the grow. And it is guaranteed you will get slightly impatient during your first grow.

I'm not a fan of b+, I would recommend getting a stain named after a location, but most all cubensis strains are similar.

I've been wanting to get a spore bag from the Internet for months but frankly I have not come across one that looks legit.

I'd love to help a legit vendor by buying his product if anyone knows of any.

Thats what I figured since you said you have no stove.

It is impossible without a stove or electric pressure canner/cooker. unless you want to buy presterilized grain spawn.

    Whats a spore bag?
I know of several legit and legal vendors for spore prints/ syringes. and several for presterilized grain jars and gain bags.

I think he means a mycobag. The Mad Season is supposed to be a legit vendor for one of those.

Yeah they work, and are legit.

But if you have a stove at your disposal like most people, I wouldn't recommend persterilized bags or jars. Its a waste of money, and will make this hobby very expensive.

One bag from them is $13, I could make the same thing for about a dollar. with no special equipment. Just a bag, a dab of silicone, wild bird seed grain, and a cooking pot.

^ agreed. it's a lot cheaper, but some people (aka newbs) don't like the hassle of sterilization, so that would be their route, even though it is way more expensive.

I don't think I've even paid over $70 to grow shrooms and I've had constant output for months
