Sheesh! I hate the Republican Party, but at the same time, I have no love for the Democratic Party. Both have their positives and negatives. I want a party that allows people to own guns, get married (regardless of their orientation), smoke pot, offers national healthcare, choose with whom they do business, and basically empowers the individual to follow his/her own conscience without social-political pressures. Is there such a party?
There might be a few points you wouldn't like, simply because I do like some Republican ideas(not many). If there were only a way to condense the best of both parties...
Republicans and Democrats are two wings (both authoritarian and rightest) of the same dictatorial capitalist class which rules America. Reps are more openly fascist, while Democrats claim to advocate for the working class/minorities/oppressed. Remember, though, the Democrats were actually the party of the slave-owners. Obama is nothing new, but more of the same. To be honest, it would have been better for Romney to win the election; at least then there would have been mass upheaval against the obvious tyranny of a Romney presidency. Under the Democrat Obama, many liberals, trade unionists, etc. have been successfully pacified. America is a one-party system. Canada has a similar system of statist "democracy". Alternatives must lay beyond the parliamentary system.
I think many have had that same thought for a long time, yet we are stuck in a political quagmire without recourse.
The democrats ARE NOT TRYING TO TAKE YOUR GUNS AWAY. The republicans are doing a fine job of bullshitting the weak minded into believing that though. The democrats are trying to take weapons of mass killings out of the hands of nut jobs. M60 machine guns ARE NOT USED FOR HUNTING! They are only good for killing large numbers of PEOPLE! Hunters don't need hundred round ammo clips to kill a deer. If they do, they should try bowling as a sport. As far as protecting your home with weapons, where do you draw the line? The right wingers tell you that you need that M60 to defend yourself from the "evil corrupt government". Well, you better have more than that then. Better have some stinger missiles to knock out the drones, and a few nukes to take out the pentagon. The democrats WERE the southern confederate states, up until the 60's, when JFK and LBJ brought equal rights to the blacks. Then the northern states became the democrats, and the southern states became republican. The Republican party has always been for the rich. That's what the Civil War was really all about. The republicans were trying to protect the profits of the corporations in the north. Lincoln didn't give a damn about the blacks, and in fact tried to deport all of them after the war. The 1929 economic collapse happened because the republicans were greedy and tried to protect the scams of the banks and Wall Street. That happened again in 2007, because if you don't learn from the past, the same shit happens again. And it did. The democrats brought this country out of the Great Depression, and ran the country for forty years, giving us the greatest economic expansion in the history of the U.S. in the 50's and 60's. That is until the 90's when Clinton gave us an even bigger economic boom. Every time a republican has been president since Raygun, they've doubled the national debt. Raygun almost tripled it from less than one trillion to $2.5 trillion in his eight years. And he spent it all on the war machine. Shrub daddy doubled it again in only four years, from $2.5 trillion to almost $5 trillion. And he did it starting the Iraq war. Remember Desert Storm? Democrat Clinton was the only president to ever balance the budget. And Shrub Jr. destroyed it in his first six months in the White House. Shrub Jr. also doubled the national debt from $5.5 trillion to over $11 trillion. He did it by giving millionaires $3 trillion in welfare (tax cuts), and the Iraq/Afghan wars. He also destroyed not only the U.S. economy, but also the global economy. Obama has spent the last four years trying to bring the economy back. And doing a good job of it, in spite of the republicans blocking and filibustering everything he's tried to do. He's made health care for EVERYONE, instead of just for the rich. He ended the Iraq war, and is trying to end the Afghan war over the objections of the republican war mongers, like McCain and Lindsey Graham. So you see, there's a big difference between the left and the right wingers. The left has always been for the regular Joe, and the right has always been for the rich. Those that say they are the same, are anarchists. Don't be fooled. Also notice, that the cons will try to say this is bullshit. But they can't refute it with anything to back it up.
Gun control is a horrible, horrible idea. Violence is a result of social decay and alienation, and should be treated as such. Gun control is used by the state to strengthen their monopoly on violence; no "lone wolf" has ever committed the atrocities that the state has committed. If you make guns illegal/strengthen gun control, then only cops and criminals will have access to firearms (cops and criminals being synonymous terms) The gap between the Dems and Reps, between the so-called "left" and the right, is so small as to to be almost non-existent. At the time "JFK and LBJ brought equal rights to the black", the FBI was busy violently repressing the black underclass. Remember the Black Panthers? Dozens of police assassinations, hundreds forced into dungeons to rot. The civil rights movement allowed certain blacks to rise into the middle-class, but the racial caste system in America has always been healthy and strong, as racism is at the foundation of American society. The Democratic party is also a party for the rich, their rhetoric is a complete sham. FDR was a rich capitalist who understood that unless certain concessions were made to the working class, there would be revolt; the Great Depression had ushered in a radicalization of the workers. So FDR centralized the state and gave people a few bones, so as to appease the radicals and prevent revolution. Then World War 2 came, and with it the decimation of Japan's and West Europe's economies. This, not the Democrats, allowed America to prosper in the post-war era. Also the unions were strong. Clinton gutted welfare programs, and Democrats have never fundamentally challenged the mass incarceration of minorities under the totalitarian drug war. Both parties are parties of warfare and bloodshed. Both are beholden to the same masters. As for Obama, it's beyond me how anyone could support such a war criminal, who engages regularly in mass assassinations; who has a cabinet stocked with Wall Street bankers; who regularly indicts whistleblowers for treason, etc. etc. "Those that say [the parties] are the same, are anarchists"; not only anarchists, but anyone who can see through the total lie of "democracy". America is a one-party state controlled by a dictatorship of fathomlessly rich families. This is how it is, be it Democrat or Republican
