BEIRUT (Reuters) - Israeli bombardment killed at least 40 civilians in Lebanon on Friday and Hizbollah launched its longest-range rocket attack of the war as world powers tried to overcome their differences on how to end the fighting One Israeli air strike hit a farm near Qaa, close to the Syrian border in the Bekaa Valley where workers, mostly Syrian Kurds, were loading plums and peaches onto trucks, local officials said. They said 33 people were killed and 20 wounded. Television footage showed bodies of what appeared to be farm workers lined up near the ruins of a small structure in fruit groves. Strewn nearby were fruit baskets. "I was picking peaches when three bombs hit. Others were having lunch and they were torn to pieces," said Mohammad Rashed, one of the wounded. Syria's official news agency said 17 of the dead were Syrian workers, five of them women. "The air force spotted a truck that was suspected to have been loaded with weapons cross from Syria into Lebanon on a route that is routinely used to transport weapons," said an Israeli army spokesman. "The truck entered into a building and remained inside for an hour, then left and returned to Syria." He said that when the truck left, the building was attacked. It was one of the deadliest air strikes in 24 days of war. An air raid in the town of Qana on Sunday killed up to 54 civilians, Lebanese officials say. Human Rights Watch says it has confirmed 28 dead in that attack and 13 people missing. Dont they see that they're killing FAR more innocent civillians that terrorists? We arrested Saddam for killing everyone in an apartment building because they were thought to have been behind an attempted assasination, yet we stand behind Israel for killing over 700 people, most of which were civillians!?!?!?!
At least 200,000 civilians have been killed since the US invaded Iraq, and hundreds of thousands more died before the American invasion, mostly sick people and children, due to American-led sanctions. That's a lot more people than Saddam ever killed.
Maybe they should tell thier Hezbollah friends to not hide rockets next to where they are loading up the trucks...
Source please. Because I searched all over the net and the number of Iraqi civilian deaths bounces between 44,000 and 50,000....not 200,000. And that isn't nearly as many as who died from Saddam. He's responsible for millions of deaths. He used to drop gas attacks on entire villages of Kurdish and wiping them out. I hate the Iraqi war but I wont dellude myself that Hussein was not a terrible man because he certainly was.
I don't seem to recall Hezbollah being democratically elected... Whereas the Israeli population bears responsability for everything their government does.
Is all you can do is spout crap you heard on the news? I don't know if 200,000 is an accurate number. I don't believe it is, but that doesn't matter since the number is likely somewhere between 50,000 and 100,000. You're never going to hear the real number reported by the media, so the real number might never be known other than that it's more than they're telling us. Let's not also forget those dead or dying from starvation, poor sanitation and disease, and depleted uranium. YEAH, AND WE HELPED TO SUPPORT HIM! WE GAVE HIM THE MATERIALS AND KNOW-HOW TO BUILD THE CHEMICAL WEAPONS HE (supposedly) USED TO "GAS THE KURDS." Saddam was a creation of the West. I don't see you talking about this, though. Deep down you seem like a closeted defender and apologist for Bush and his neocons.
Yes, Matt I just spout off the number I hear on the news. 8-| http://www.iraqbodycount.net/ there's one non-Fox news source for you.
cynical_otter, Are you serious 100,000 Civilian Deaths Estimated in Iraq By Rob Stein Washington Post Staff Writer Friday, October 29, 2004, One of the first attempts to independently estimate the loss of civilian life from the Iraqi war has concluded that at least 100,000 Iraqi civilians may have died because of the U.S. invasion. The analysis, an extrapolation based on a relatively small number of documented deaths, indicated that many of the excess deaths have occurred due to aerial attacks by coalition forces, with women and children being frequent victims, wrote the international team of public health researchers making the calculations. Look at the date in which this article was published If there isn't 200,000 by now then I'm The President. Hotwater
Um..I just posted a source. Anyways, so one writer for the Washington Post claims 100,000 deaths from independent studies but he doesn't site his sources? Are YOU serious? I remember marching in DC back in April 2004 and the official body count presented by the anti-war movement was only 20,000. I sincerely doubt it jumped from 20,000 to 100,000 in 6 or 8 months.
Man FUCK THE MAINSTREAM NEWS, they don't tell you shit!!!You stupid asses are so fucking brainwashed by that crap,it's the only source you'll believe...Just fucking sad!!!!
Well, Mister Smarty Pants, Enlighten us then rather then just attacking people with lame namecalling and exclamation point abuse.
I have to agree with that guy though. The media is brainwashing us! Have you heard anything on the news criticizing Israel for the attacks? Haven't you heard the news reports saying that Hizbollah is a new terrorist threat? The media wants you to fear Muslims! I swear it really seems that way. Israel is the one to be worried about, but since they are white, they must be better than hizbollah right?
The Lebanese government democratically elected to not disarm the Hezbollah. Anyhow, what does this have anything to do with the subject matter?
maybe hizballah should stop stockpiling weapons in hospitals and such? hizbollah is using civilians as shields. i also see little mention of stories like this BEIRUT, Aug 7 (Reuters) - Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora said on Monday that one person had been killed in an Israeli air strike on the southern border village of Houla, rather than 40 as earlier feared. A resident said about 50 people had been found alive under the rubble. "The massacre in Houla, it turned out that there was one person killed," Siniora told reporters. "They thought that the whole building smashed on the heads of about 40 people ... thank God they have been saved."
