it's cool. my aunt's a nurse.

as far as the thread subject, farmers work really really hard for very little money. unless they're really smart and kind of lucky.

Actually some nurses earn 55k GBP - which was over 100k USD not that long ago.

I would have said ""others earn bugger all - generally jerking off 90 year olds in the deperate hope of getting something in the will".

But chose not to..

Seriously , nurses are being given more and more jobs that doctors traditionally did.

Again...Its not like that here. Nurses mostly deal with paperwork here. And do basic stuff.

I know a girl who's parents are Irish, and they were able to go to high school, then immediately into Med school, and I got the impression that was common across Europe

Here its much longer and harder, first a 4 year university, then 4 years of med school, then 2 years of residency or something, then you are a doctor

Its very expensive and they come out of school with a lot of debt, and they make lots of money

Those nurses I was talking about had gone through a 4 year program, there is also a 2 year program which gets you an LPN certification after which you would make less than what I wrote

Yeah, med school is free here. Thank God. And its 6 years + 1-2 years of residency. And then specializations/subspecializations.
I don't get your system...Why a 4 year university ? Why not med school immediately after highschool ?

then the 4 year university wouldn't get any money..

yeah, i don't really get it either. maybe it's to weed out the idiots before they waste everyone's time at med school.

Yes still called "Charge nurse" or "Sister" etc
You might get locked up for homophobia , for the past 3 years , if it was a male "sister" ...

Male nurses call each other " girlfriend"...

Not sure what *black* male nurses call each other tho '

They weed out people during pre-med, the 4 year university part, then only the best can get into med school.

It takes lots of money for the school, but then they get rich as soon as they become a doctor

That's why I don't like some doctors here, here they often end up being rich arrogant snobs.

I do know a very cool doctor who has chosen to spend his whole career in the emergency room in New York. I guess they don't make that much, but its all he wants to do

There were British kids going to med school in Prague, because places are so limited in England.
Because Britain takes most of its doctors from abroad - Asia and now I think Eastern Europe.

Plus they've gotta find fees now.And they aint even guaranteed a doctors job if they havent got "contacts"..

I see. Still....doesn't make too much sense. And its not like they accept everyone to med schools here. I mean there are entrance exams and all that. And 4 years of Uni and 4 years of med school...Thats just too much.

And I do agree about doctors being snobby. I guess that part is universal. I was very disappointed last year, when I just started school. Very, very disappointed. And its mostly a family thing/business. If your parents and grandparents aren't doctors, you won't be a surgeon for sure. Just a family doctor

I thought the Tito era stopped alot of that , no?

Some of that shit goes on in England.
Surgeons with supposed "distinguished reputations" are actually sometimes incompetent butchers.
But its probably more meritocratic than many jobs overall in England.

I don't know, its similar for lawyers, though law school is 2 years

a person getting a Phd goes to 4 years of uni, then 4 more years of grad school

I guess there would be too many doctors here otherwise or something

You don't have to have those family connections here, just really really good grades and some loans

I will say that all of that schooling does not make for a person with good social skills

also there is absolutely no way I could make it through

I think study in America is waaaaay too long. And pricey.
In Britain , law school can end 3 years after High School.

In the US , its 7 , 8 or more years...

I lol'd.
We don't here, I've never heard any nurses called sisters.

I admire Teachers. I don't think anyone here realises the state of Britains education system and I respect anyone going into teaching. Unless they're really shite. Then I respect them but less.

Yeah I googled to check- its dual titles for nurses now

Some teachers are really good people.
But the majority I came across were either silly little Hitlers.( or outright evil)
Or they didn't care about how well/badly the kids did ie were deliberately lazy and rubbish teachers.

I know people my age going into teaching. Some are conscientious.
Others are clearly *very* apathetic.

Our education system is a total disgrace. Its like Apartheid.

PS do the Welsh actually have TV?Or is it just rugby , singing and heroine?
