Actually, my own work indicates he is a racist because he is a liar, and lies so often that his immune system is doing more of the decision making for him. The thing is - can the political ideas be discussed and debated freely and when they are do they stand up to scrutiny.

This would be followed by do the people have the knowledge and education to understand the arguments and the wiliness to hear and when needed change their minds.

As FDR said - Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.

I’d say that in the US democracy is under attack and in many quarters there are political bubbles where discussion and debate is not freely available, where ideas are not examined or criticised or asked to be defended, where knowledge is distorted and restricted and where people are educated in lies.

As Orwell put it The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

There are people in the US who support voter suppression laws which are destroying democracy because they think it is saving democracy at the behest of people who have no interest in democracy.

The contradictions in that cannot be discussed or debated freely in the bubbles these people live in because those that have built the bubble know the it would not stand up to scrutiny.

 

It's a slow and painful process, but well worth it. Now if only I can change the views of my relatives who hold similar beliefs as I did in 2016.

Most people that enter into threads don’t really pay attention to how far back the thread was started. I was guilty of it too when I first started posting on HF- I just didn’t know any better.

What’s really amazing is your view of the current political climate has changed, and this rarely happens with members that post about topics like yours. I think whoever sees the topic, your original post, initial supporting posts and responses, and, your avatar , are likely inclined to believe that you’re a diehard Trump loyalist. Totally not your fault, because they didn’t read all the way through the thread.

If the Democrats would not have rigged things for Hillary Clinton in 2016, Bernie Sanders would be in his second term by now .
