I prefer hip as it has more diversity of not only topics but also personalities. It can also be interesting as views can be very different due to geographical locations. There are also enough boards and topics that you can be as engaged as you wish to be or not. Nice option to have.

Social media, at least the mainstream ones tend to be great for family type of interactions or keeping up with old acquaintances. I can't say that I use them but those who do that I know tend to use them for those reasons.

I like webforums more than the newer social media platforms. Hipforums is better because it's a webforum, also because it's active, but not too active and there are a variety of topics to post on. Most other forums are topic specific and the people tend to have more in common, which is usually great when you want to have an in-depth conversation or have some qualified opinions but when you want to talk about something random and off-topic HF is best.

I like the topics that are discussed here, from the most intellectual to the least. Deep philosophy to trivial fluff. Bestiality to relationship problems. I like the "anything goes" mentality. Most things can be taken seriously and debated.

Also, this place has a sense of humor when needed. Lots of different input from different cultures, countries, world views.

My Facebook wall is mostly a way to keep tabs on the lives of people I don't often see. This place feeds my need for banter and exposure to taboo topics that aren't normally confronted :).

The advertisement on hf is by far the most obnoxious.

I am in agreement with Heat about the diversity of HF and how other social media is geared toward keeping up with family and acquaintances.

For me HF is more like a learning experience on steroids. Recipes, sex, relationships, poetry, stories, people from all over the world. It doesn't get a whole lot better than this for me.

I feel like most people on hipforums are on my wavelength. Even if we don't always agree we're at least interested in the same topics.

I've never really used any other forums except a baby/parenthood forum and the women there are generally bitchy and judgmental. There is a lack of judgment here I find refreshing.

Social media is an entirely different ballgame from an anonymous forum. I think most people on my Facebook are there to show off how fabulous/pathetic their lives are in order to receive attention and adoration/sympathy and pity. At least the ones who post constantly.

HP is rich with a lot of contributors. I'm new here but I've explored a number of other forums. I wonder if Fiona from Suffolk (MAgal on femalefirst) is here or has ever been. I miss that lady like I can't describe. Forums are some of the greatest things to ever emerge from the internet. In the comfort of literally anywhere you wish you can tap into information it took some people a lifetime to have. Isn't that just great?

I like the variety of topics that are discussed on Hipforums. I find I can talk about topics fairly easily which I may not be comfortable doing in everyday life or sites such as Facebook. I think exchanging those types of ideas is good for me.

I am a bit addicted to Hipforums though and some of the topics brought up here which lean toward the deviant have probably skewed my notions of a variety of topics which I'm not sure is necessarily good.
