it means specifically a person who chooses to identify themselves as a fallower of the particular religious revilation known as christianity. it does not mean that they are a good or bad person. it does not mean they actually understand its teachings. it does not mean they will or will not reap some eternal reward or please some unseen being by doing so. it means only and specifically that they choose to identify themselves with that particular belief.

so would you only associate the word christian specifically to a religious person or persons.what about the more broader literal meaning of the word christian.such as in a believer in a good man called jesus who once walked this earth.and the literal meaning of the word christian,in the sense also of humane and decent living human being.people who don't necessarily identify themselves as christians in words, but live as them in their lives and actions.so someone would'nt have to be religious to be a christian person would they?

a follower/believer in the tao or way of Christ .....my ex had a mother who was jewish and a father who was taoist and is in no way a christian other than her behavior towards others. and yet once in a hospital she had a catholic priest tell her she was a 'blessed heathern' meaning it as a compliment.

When I call myself a Christian, I mean nothing more than that I try to base my life on what I understand to be the teachings and example of Jesus the Nazarene. I see Jesus as a righteous hippie who preached unconditional love, even for society's rejects. I've never identified with a couple of prevalent versions of what it means to be a Christian: St. Paul's atonement theory that we must believe that Jesus died for our sins and rose from the dead, and the bundle of doctrines expressed in the creeds (Apostles', Nicene, and Athanasian) including the virgin birth, the Trinity, etc. I share St. Justin Martyr's view that atheists who sincerely seek truth and try to be decent people are essentially Christians.

The word Christian literally means to be Christ like... But, I have yet to meet one in real life that fits that description.

ya okie me to.i don't call myself a christian, but if someone called me a christan person i'd havta agree with them ,that their right, in my definition and meaning of the word.ya i to believe jesus was a just a very good person who did the best he could for all humanity in his time on earth.no i don't believe in any a that either.the holy trinity thing an all that fictious stuff.i believed he died because of love alright, only he was murdered for being good.he was'nt a volunteer that jumped on a cross.he just got put on one by all who hated him for loving people.i believe christian people come from all walks.i know loadsa really christian good and decent living people.christian catholics, christian atheists ,christian agonostic, christian allsorts.an loadsa a unchristian living people to ,also come from all walks.it works both ways.ya from reading what you wrote ,in my book you would definitely be a christian person in the humane human being sense of the word.

I've always thought of Christians as people who professed to be followers of Yeshua ben Yosef of Galilee.

    Yes, Roamy.

Yeshua ben Yosef is my 1st cousin, 8x removed, of the wife of my 64th great grandfather - at least that's how ancestry.com states it.

I've found in my travels there are far more 'professers' than practioners of the tao of Christ.

my definition is "someone who believes sin is ok as long as they feel bad about it later because they think some "God" is going to forgive them and let them live in a fantasy heaven world when they die"
