    I don't understand it.

Have any of the 'haters' been outside the US?

I've done a fair bit of travelling and I think we're one of the best countries on Earth.

Nowhere near the level of Evil Empire that I see expressed seemingly everywhere online.

Can someone break it down for me?

List the 10 worst things about America that make it such a horrible place?

    Hi

I think I’d need a bit of clarification before I could give a reasonable answer.

What do you classify as ‘hate’ for example I was a critic of the Bush Jr administration’s foreign policy in regard to Afghanistan and Iraq for that I was called a hater of America.

The thing been that many Americans will dude their political opponents as ‘haters of America’. It was common to hear the phrase ‘Love it or leave it’ been levelled at those being critical of Bush Jr's policies.

    [SIZE=11pt][/SIZE]
Which other countries did you travel to?

I’ve also travelled widely mainly in Europe [and also having lived in France and Greece] but also with trips to North Africa [Morocco] and America [California]. To me most places have their pros and cons.

How are you rating your countries on your ‘best’ list?

    bitch

    biCH/

    1. noun

a female dog, wolf, fox, or otter.

    2. verb
    informal

    express displeasure; grumble.
    "they bitch about everything"
synonyms: complain, whine, grumble, grouse; More

I was going with the verb, but i could see how you thought i meant a noun

I'm American and have not only traveled to other countries, I have lived in another country.

All places have their good and bad. IMO, US has serious Governmental issues. There are far too many people starving and homeless in this rich country, then you have the worker bees, working their asses off but barley getting by....then ya have the rich and ultra rich who run the country and don't give a shit about the rest of us.

We have Pharma companies in bed with the Gov and now we have a horrible drug addiction problem...with prescription drugs!

    Honestly....the US is a mess.

Look at the wealth distributions of other countries. That's not an american issue
I used to look down at all the problems america has as a reason to dislike it, but honestly are biggest problems are dividing irrelevant social issues.
Though I do agree with you about the pharm industry, but that would die if people just used natural herbs and stopped paying those fat cats. Not their problem, our problem. We live in the information age for gods sake.

The best solution I've seen to solving the homeless issue is what was done in japan. They have their subway systems and one project was built to create these walls of tubes, picture a wall with coffin sized holes in it. They have a small bed and TV, and were intended for business people who missed the last train home, they'd rent out for very cheap roughly a few dollars a night.

The government started to notice that the homeless were invading these shelters as they were the best place to live, and affordable. Instead of kicking them out or stopping the program, the Japanese government decided to adjust rental rates to allow for people to rent it monthly for even cheaper, as well as allowing the tubes to be used a temporary address which could be used to apply for jobs. This solution took loads of people off the streets, and even those who don't seem to want to change much at least have a safe place to stay. Probably wouldn't want to stay around there if you were business class anymore, but I'm sure it wasn't that attractive to the upper class anyways

You know what I wanna know? Why no one talks about how weird Japan is. Seriously, I read last night that there is a reality show in Japan where a male gets jerked off while trying to sing. That's it, that's the whole show. They're fucking weird people.

Also, vanilla gorilla - how long ago did you visit the US? I agree with you on the coffee - but if you can find a locally owned coffee shop where the beans are roasted on the premises you can usually get a good cup of coffee. As far as sugar in foods, I know a lot of southerners cook with sugar but nowadays that's only in country cafes. Any decent sized city in the south is going to have quality restaurants and I can't think of anywhere else in the US where cooking with sugar is common.

Yeah, Japan is hands down the weirdest culture imo

    Love it though

Sugar cane just isn't big in america, i think that's why it's not used much in cooking.

My father was a Boston police officer. BPD spend all winter trying to get the homeless to go to shelters so they don't freeze to death. There are plenty of shelters and they'd give them a ride, but most refused to go. Some had too much pride, many had mental illness, drugs, or just didn't trust anybody.

Instead he'd bring them down to the subway tunnels. It's always warm down there and there are large sections of unused tunnels. I'll never forget him coming home on X-Mas eve with his cruiser thinking he wanted to see us (he used to take me for rides) but nope, he was loading the trunk of his patrol car with cases of wine. He was heading to the tunnels with his partner to pass out wine to wish them a Merry Christmas.

Dad could be a real asshole. He was aggressive, confrontational, had a violent temper, and wasn't easy to talk to but every so often I'd see a side of him that really impressed me.

My family arrived in the colonies early in the 17th century, I was born in Los Angeles County, and I have traveled the world -- and I bitch about the things that are done by our corporations and our government because they are despicable and are often crimes against humanity. But what burns my ass the most is that Americans don't want to see it so they refuse to see it, and that's what enables the pricks to continue perpetrating evil around the globe, including right here at home.

Ive travelled a fair bit now, it isn't just America, happens in a lot of countries, its also damn near impossible in most Asian countries, although the availibilty and cost of fresh milk is a big factor and they aren't all that big on flat whites anyway

Its just something that sticks out, you go into a 7Eleven here and the machine is brewing coffee with fresh milk, everywhere else on the planet it seems uht packaged milk or that crème shit.

Of course you can find specialist barista places there, but seem rarer, here they are everwhere, and anyone that serves coffee uses fresh milk, even my local bakery has a proper machine

Its just something that sticks out everytime I travel

As for sugar in food, another strange thing is we don't have any of those big restaurant chains like you do in the US, none, nada, they just don't work for some reason. Red Lobster, OMG I wish we had a few Red Lobsters, places like that, even the vegies have some weird coating over them, which is probably done before it gets to the restaurant in little prepackaged amounts to make it quicker for the kitchenhands to make

So I think its something you don't even really notice as everyone does it, and most of it is done in manufacturing before it even gets to the food outlet. But go to US and its like sugar overload, whereas go to Malaysia and you are trying to find a donut shop to get a sugar fix cos its not in anything else

I haven't travelled much and haven't been to America, but from chatting to Americans I've noticed our lack of chain places in Australia. No Cheesecake Factory, Applebee's, Wendy's etc.

There are some pretty great places to eat here in the Adelaide CBD though.

Edited to add...I realise this response has nothing to do with American hate, sorry OP!

Pointing out and fixing the huge problems with something you love is a responsibility.

Simply being on top of the pile doesn't make it a "better" country, in many ways or for many people.

This is a cheap lame strawman smear on those who try to make america better. If you're trying to be funny, it's not funny.

I don't know, it is pretty trendy to hate America, like undies mentioned. Of all of the places I've traveled (mostly 3rd world countries), it's certainly among the least shitty, save Canada.

America is the star football player in college, the one with his life together, but who secretly abuses his wife. There's something wrong with him, but it's difficult to place. Yep.
